Posted: 12/17/04 at 4:19pmThis has always been a dilemma and things can get pretty lonely for Jews on this day. Nothing is really open except for Chinese restaurants. My synagogue has had a great idea that has become a tradition. At night, they have a Comedy Revue and afterwrods a catered Kosher Chinese dinner. What do others do on this day?

Posted: 12/17/04 at 4:22pmI actually go and spend it with friends and celebrate the holiday-- tree and all. I'm a terrible jew...Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. I think it has to do with the idea behind it all. I lov Chanukah too though!

Posted: 12/17/04 at 4:35pmI do a happy dance that all the christians are out of town or busy. I shop (certain stores are open), eat out (there's more than just chinese restaurants open in my neighborhood) and revel in the quiet.

Little Fish - it's more like... where I'm from, at least, movie theatres and Chinese restaurants are some of the only things even OPEN on Xmas day.

Posted: 12/17/04 at 4:45pmI don't think I've EVER been to a Chinese restaurant on Christmas Day before. Does that make me a bad Jew? We are usually visiting family in Canada over the over the Winter Break, so I'm usually pigging out at their houses.

Posted: 12/17/04 at 4:47pmi dont like that my mom works at a hospital and all the jews and muzlums want the day off too it is not there holiday and they get it off and christions have to go work (a 12 houre day) on the day there lord was born

Posted: 12/17/04 at 4:56pmOf course there is a merge of cultures where Jews and Chinese are concerned. Look at the game of Mah Jongg which many older Jewish women play. And Won Tons are really kreplach!

Posted: 12/17/04 at 5:03pmI've worked Christmas & Boxing Day (Commonwealth) for the last 22 yrs of my Nursing career. I really don't mind its often quiet & u can really spend some time w the patients (plus the time & a half is lots better than a sharp stick in the eye!) New Years Eve is MY celebration -time to drink too much & have inappropriate sex!

IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT (1934) is on TCM on December 25th--can't wait!
It was the first movie to "sweep" all the major Oscars--Best Picture/Director/Actor/Actress.
Regarding Chinese Food, I had a TON for Thanksgiving.
I'll probably just thaw out a Healthy Choice Dinner or something.

i see where your coming from but chrismas is ALOT more then santa and evin more then spending time with famly its all about Jesus had his birth
think about a birthday party its not about going to get the cake or the (santa/presets) or geting together is about selibrating the birthday boy(jesus)
