But my dad has been saying or years Rosie hates white men, especially republican white men.
Sounds to me like dad's been making a covert jab at Rosie's sexuality for years... Just sayin'. Is he by any chance a white Republican?
(And disclaimer: No one I know would send that letter to Rosie.)

i didn't care much for rosie for awhile. she actually started getting on my nerves. but then i took the time out to listen to what she was saying and i had to admit we have a similar view on issues regarding the war, society, etc.
i've a new found respect for her again. and i'm enjoying reading her blog.

Posted: 5/28/07 at 10:57amI usually love Rosie but she is the one acting cowardly by walking away from "The View". I don't appreciate her constant hits against "white men" either. I am NOT a Republican but why can't she just say the people in charge?
#31what does rosie have against white men?
Posted: 5/28/07 at 10:59amIs it really hard to see that Rosie is NOT attacking white men as a race? She's clearing attacking the power structure of the country, which is made of rich, white men. It always has been.

Posted: 5/28/07 at 11:04amWell, then why doesn't she just say that instead of the white men thing? Is it that hard? Or maybe she just hates all men but finds it OK to bash white men. Only she knows the true answer to that!
#33what does rosie have against white men?
Posted: 5/28/07 at 11:06amBecause they ARE white men. It's the power structure of the country. And it's not representative of the citizens of the United States.

Jesus Christ. She said white men because, as a group, that's who is in charge and who HAS been in charge since the the country was founded. You don't have to be a man hater to see who is at the top of the power structure recognize the fact that but for a precious few, those in power are WHITE MEN. Not just men, but WHITE men. And you don't have to hate all white Republican men, just because you can't stand the leadership.
And what I *really* hate is when, again, someone tries to discredit what are clearly political views by taking a swipe at her for being a lesbian.
Now, I'm not happy with Rosie at present. I think there are better ways she could be making her points, but let's not go throwing the baby out with the bath water just because of her strident delivery and juvenile behavior.

What I *really* hate is her obvious hatred for white men(and writing *really* like this
). As I said earlier, I have always been on her side but she is handling this whole situation very poorly. It makes me wonder if all the bad press about her back when she had the magazine was actually true.

If you read or watch comments about Rosie's "rich white men," she is referring to the patriarchal society that has been in charge and responsible for most bad things in America and elsewhere since the very beginning. That is why she doesn't simiply say "those in charge." Because it's a societal system, not a current epidemic. Read Jane Fonda's biography. She basically says the thing, but in book form, not trying to sum it up in a couple words of blog speak.
Rosie admittedly has had issues with men in the past (stemming from her rocky road with her father), but her brothers have always been a strong presence in her life and she has two male children. In fact, on today's episode of the View, she talks about how Parker really changed the way she looked at men.

She's not the first lesbian to hate men.
What's the big surprise?
#41what does rosie have against white men?
Posted: 5/28/07 at 1:58pmI think it's a bit absurd for "white men" to take offense in that statement, especially since Rosie is white herself. She is very clearly attacking the system, a system that like it or not is run, supported, and cemented by white men. It's not about men, it's not about being white, it's about who has power in this country.

I'm not sure that "white men" ARE taking offense...according to his profile, ljay (the guy who started the thread) is a teenage student. Not that there's anything wrong with being a teenage student, but I'm guessing that he's not one of the rich white guys running things.

Posted: 5/28/07 at 2:54pmI can see the "attacking the power structure" position. But just personnally, as a white male, this bothers me a little. I see how she is attacking the power structure, and the lack of diversity in parts of the American System. But words are very powerful things and in this case, she stated her case so carelessly, there is a bit of an implication that denotes something far more extreme than just the lack of diversity/problem with the powers that be, and extends to a hatred of white males. I don't think she hates white males, and I do think she has an excellent point regaurding a problem we have here in America regaurding the oh-so confusing issue of diversity. HOWEVER, I wish she would have phrased it in a more direct manner. The implication bothers me a bit. It might help if she had bothered to write out words and sentences.

Posted: 5/28/07 at 3:12pmWhat if Imus had said it about another race? Would we just say it's OK and what he really meant was this or that? He got into trouble because he SAID something, no matter what he actually meant or felt. Rosie should be held to the same rules. She wrote it.

Posted: 5/28/07 at 3:22pmBut it IS the rich white men who she mean to indict. Not all men. Not black men. It's rich white men. She didn't call them honkies, or crackers, or other names that Imus might have used. She stated the truth as she saw it. Rich. White. Men.

But she didn't say RICH white men, she said white men. Like I said, its not her opinion that I have a problem with, its the lack of care and full explanation used in her responce. Yes, you and I know what she REALLY meant, but like I said, words are powerful, and not everyone will know what she meant (misunderstandings run rampant in today's world). I just wish she had made her real point more clear instead of
"there will never b peace
if the white men r in charge"
Instead of making a real point about a lack of diversity in American Goverment, or her problems with the ideas of the group (rich white republican men) largely in charge, she simply swiftly indites all white men. And that is what I have a problem with.
