Being gay is ridiculously common - 10% of births are gay (or close to that) - and it is biological. The bible, written very very long ago, may still say that homosexuality is evil, but if we have proved that it is not, why don't they change it? It's not too late now! Even if the church does not want to change it, why are people still inclined to be homophobic? I'm curious. Do people not know it is biological? What about the people in New York City who HAVE to know it's biological (unless they live in a dumpster)?? Is it just a need to feel hate towards a race, similar to that of racism? Do people just not understand the sexuality? Discuss.
Why do you post threads like this?
It's ignorance, plain and simple.
Fear of what we don't understand.
fear.
And the Bible isn't antigay. The incorrect translations and interpretations are.
Okay.
Ignorance AND fear.
I've spent 45 years educating people to not be fearful. Teach by example. Stand up to haters. Love those who except you for who you are as a person.
I also think a huge part of it is sexism. People are afraid to see society's sex barriers broken.
No matter how you slice it, the Bible is at the heart of it all. Even for those who do not consider themselves "devout," the Bible has formed most of Western civilizations' traditional concepts of morality and sexuality, thereby providing the tools for bigotry and judgment.
Of course, the Bible is full of teachings and beliefs that have been re-interpreted or just plain forgotten about through the years. Homosexuality is destined to join that category.
Not to mention the fact that history tells us there was little to no stigma surrounding homosexuality until the Bible and Christianity came along.
I dont' blame the Bible, it's a lovely work of fiction. I blame those who teach the Bible.
Fear, caused by a lack of understanding, not helped by strong religious teachings.

What is at the heart of any hate?
The various labels and justifications used to define people as 'other' are many but at core are fundamentally irrelevant.

I no longer care - for the most part, the disdain that some have for me is returned in kind.

Why exactly is New York City the place where people MUST know it's biological? Because we're a shining Mecca of tolerance and general superiority?
Because in some rural towns, people sometimes only have parents + church to look to for answers.

Why do people post threads like this, you ask, Byron? Could it be that they want someone else's feedback?
You have posted alot of the threads that are off topic.
Fear is at the root of all hate. You have to be carefully taught.
I don't think the Bible has anything to do with it. When I was a teacher, it was the church kids were welcoming people into their groups, staying after to help the teachers, being nice to everyone. When we had to step in and help kids who were picked on for any reason--being/acting gay included--it was never ever the "church kids." The church kids (yes, those ones--whose parents vote Republican, go to church three times a week, and listen to church music) were best friends with the Muslim kids, hung out with the gay kids in drama, etc.
Anyone who looks or acts different gets attacked in this world. That's the heart of it.
Why is the church a target? The church teaches that God is love and all who live in love live in God. Although they do see homosexuality as a sin (not one of my beliefs) they do not teach hate.
