That being said I love the whole song..... though I am partial to "It's time now to sing out, though the story never ends. Let's celebrate, remember a year in the life of friends"

"In diapers, report cards, in spoked wheels, in speeding tickets, in contracts, dollars, in funerals, in births"

because it goes through things you have to deal with as your life goes on. when you get older and have to deal with things like signing contracts and negotiating money, showing your parents a bad report card when you were 9 doesn't seem so hard.

I guess it seems like a simple, somewhat typical one but

"Measure your life in love."

When I really start to examine this concept, it just...amazes me. The idea of measuring your life in how much love you give out and how much love you receive, and the fact that love especially in this story is so much more than simply romantic love, but the love you hold for your family and friends. I mean..there's intelligence and money and a host of other things, but I can't imagine a better way of evaluating your life by how much love you give out and how much love you receive.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
