What pisses off New Yorkers the most?

I work on Corlandt Street next to Century 21 and Ground Zero.
Tourists, getting excited over the cranes at Ground Zero. Tourist loading all their new purchases into the suitcase they just purchased outside of Century 21 while standing in the middle of Cortlandt Street while blowing cigarette smoke into their childrens'faces.
Tourists barging on the train without letting anyone exit
Did I say tourists??

Agreed, Borstal. And then they're the first ones to shriek "There's no room" at the next stop, when someone else tries to do what they just did.

Besides all the stuff already mentioned, I hate when New Yorkers don't know that it's TIMES Square, not Time Square.

Forget to or don't tip at all - or leave a tip that's not big enough gets a reaction ...though not a nice one.

See, I think that's charming. I love tourists. Sure, they can annoy by standing cluelessly blocking the sidewalk because they've stopped to look at the big building ("Ooo, look at the big building!") but they mean no harm. It's like watching a puppy discovering snow for the first time. Adorable, really.

Any New Yorker can see a clutch of tourists a block away and change trajectory to avoid them - and it ain't the tourists barging on the subway before people can get off, it's the locals.

I've grown to get more pissed off by people who sit/stand and finish cell phone conversations on the top of subway entrance stairs than the clods with bad etiquette on the platform. Fine, you don't want to go underground before you finish your conversation, but could you not stand to the side instead of directly on the top stair as people try to push by you in both directions?

I found New York to be a very difficult city to get to grips with and I'm sure much of the reason for that is that there was no opportunity for interaction with locals, unlike many other foreign cities I've been to.

I probably annoy tourists more than they annoy me. I'm always going up to people struggling with a map or looking confused on the subway. Or if they're passing the camera back and forth I'll ask if they want me to take a shot all together.

That hideous recorded voice on the new subway cars, the one that says, "Ladies and gentlemen, we are delayed because of train traffic ahead of us. Please be patient."

Its that damned "Please be patient" that annoys the f*ck out of me. They completely negate my status as a consumer who is being inconvenienced that way. How many times would a waiter say, "Your meal will be delayed because of kitchen traffic ahead of you, please be patient," before you started taking money off the tip?

Reg, I do that all the time, too. Every so often, I'm on the train that stops at JFK, and usually quite a few out-of-towners get on. I subscribe to TimeOut magazine (ridiculously inexpensive), and I try to remember to bring it with me to pawn off on some unsuspecting tourist. I'm sure many of them think I'm quite insane,or that I want something - oh, and I wasn't one of the prostitutes in Amsterdam either, but you can't blame 'em for trying.

Just so you don't think I'm a complete pollyanna, I'm with Calvin. I will hip-check a bitch talking on the phone while on the subway stairs.

I hate when you get on a crowded subway car and people don't move to the middle. And just stand there right in front of the door and it make it harder for everyone else to fit in.
