Hmph. Imagine that. Not a mention about the true thorn? Tourists that dress like B'way Characters in public. Go figure.

I'm not a NY'er but slow walkers piss me off in Manhattan, too.
Here's one NOT on the list: Tourists that block the sidewalk by just standing there, all spread out.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I'm not a NY'er either but I hate when everyone is walking basically at a normal pace and a tourist stops dead in their tracks to take a photograph.

Yep...sidewalk blockers was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the thread title.

Not strollers. Double wide strollers.

Something I encountered yesterday was someone who went a full rant when another person ran into them in Time Square, presumably by accident. In my book, that is like getting pissed off about long lines at Disneyland. Comes with the territory.

I imagine street fairs are only annoying to those who drive/are driven... I love seeing a street fair, because I know I won't have to wait for lights in order to cross.

Nothing on that list surprises me.

I hate people who stand right on your back if you do need to stop walking for a second for a reason, like when my shoe came off. Instead of going around me knowing that I was trying to put it back on, they just stood ridiculously close to me until I started walking again. There was plenty of space to pass too.

I am personally most annoyed by people who actually live here who walk 3 wide on a sidewalk so that you can't pass them. Tourists don't know better, but residents should.

I guess I'm the only person pissed off by idiots who stop/stand at the top/bottom of stairways/escalators, totally blocking traffic.

I love street fairs!

I really don't mind tourists at all. First of all, I've been a tourist in other cities, so . . . But also I'm proud of our city.

Door blockers are on my list. Also people who take the left side of the stairs and then go slower than the people on the right side. Strollers are often wielded annoyingly (though I like babies).

Sidewalk blockers/slow walkers are #1 for me. I don't even care in tourist areas like Times Square since it's just a bunch of dumb tourists with their thumbs up their asses, but in the rest of the city it pisses me off.

A close second to me = Bus drivers. Nobody runs lights and blocks the box like these bastards. MTA, tourist, schoolbuses, they all do it, as though the traffic laws do not apply to them. If i'm crossing the street and the light is about to change, I usually get across quick, so I don't disturb traffic. But if I'm in front of a (non-moving) bus. I stroll. Screw those guys.

Re the subway, I HATE people who try to jump on as you are getting off. I've absolutely shoulder trucked some people not paying attention to that rule of etiquette (often asians for some reason).

Horns. EVERYONE is in a hurry numbnuts. You laying on the horn like an asshole isn't helping.

I can't stand tourists who pretend to know what they're talking about. I was sitting in Bryant Park the other day and a girl approached me asking if I could please tell her friend that they were almost in Chinatown.

I also hate people who treat the subway like it's a Disney ride. You know, ride for one stop and get off or go, "WhhhhhoooooOOOOOAAAAAAA" every time the train starts to move.

I don't live in NYC but I'm in the city often enough to not be a tourist. I'm more of a New Yorkist.

This isn't really an annoyance but I actually love it when the tourists get all freaked out when I cross against the light. I had one woman yell out "She's going to die!" (there were no cars coming).

But I do hate the people who walk three or four across and then walk slowly. Get out of my way!

When my 7 and 10 year old niece and nephew came to visit NYC last summer, their favorite thing to do in NY was ride the subway.

Barney, I HATE it when folks don't wait for folks to get off. I also hate it when I'm waiting on the platform and someone (ALWAYS a little lady) jumps directly in front of me. It doesn't make you get anywhere faster.

ETA: I think we have Sex and the City to thank for 4 folks trying to walk down the street together

Yeah, doorhuggers are irritating.

Also when a train is clearly full to the gills, some a**hole has to push his whole body against everybody crammed against the door to try to be that one person who gets into the train.
