Someone over at The Simpsons production company must be ticked off. On tonight's opening credits, they animated an Asian sweat shop producing Simpsons products ending with an image of the 20th Century Fox logo.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I was very confused by that and what kind of statement they were trying to make, and even more confused that Fox let them use it.

I couldn't figure out what the joke was either. Were they making light of sweatshops with the unicorn/dolphin bits? It didn't make a whole lot of sense.

I missed tonights episode but it sounds from the description above they were making a joke that Fox uses sweatshop labor to make their merchandise. They've always made fun of Fox so this doesn't seem out of place at all. It actually sounds really funny and I'm pissed I missed it.

It went on too long to be funny. Usually their slams at Fox are sharp and quick. This was long and drawn out.

Jordan - that's what it seemed at first, but then it got weird - poking holes in DVDs with unicorn horns, using a dead dolphin's severed head's tongue to seal packages...it went WAY past just implying the sweatshop - it was like they went for that joke and then...I don't know...got high or something.

It also had the workers throwing live animals into a shredder which came out the other side and were used to stuff Bart dolls. It was a bit weirder than usual.

This wasn't clever like the other extended openings. For example, the evolution one had Moe heading the other way was clever. And the one where the Simpsons were other sitcoms (Dick van Dyke, Cheers, Brady Bunch).

I think they might have been going for a macabre funny like Edward Gorey with all the dark colors. But it really didn't make it.

I just rewatched the opening. On the billboard, and then again on the side of the school, they wrote the word "Banksy" so I think someone was trying to make a statement.

It is confusing if the inspiration was the outsourcing of animation to South Korea. I didn't get that at all. It seemed to be about sweatshop production of merchandising.

Satire that hasn't decided what its point is can't really be successful.

The hubby & I both liked it- I saw it as them responding to the criticism they've gotten for producing the show with Korean animation- a real thumb in the eye "It could be worse."

I did feel bad for Gary the Unicorn chained up being used to poke the holes in DVDs. One of my joys in life is seeing where one-time Simpson character walk-ons turn up again, but I had hoped Gary was living in the elephant refuge with Stampy or something. I'd love to see an episode where we trace Gary's fall from the garden of Eden to a Korean sweatshop.

I thought their animation was done over there since the beginning of the show. That started over 20 years ago.

I feel about this the same way I feel about pretty much all of Banksy's work. Like he's an overgrown manchild who's just being subversive for the sake of being subversive. I wouldn't mind so much, except he doesn't seem to have any point beyond subversion for subversion's sake. He's like a 14 year old boy wearing a Che Guevara t-shirt and listening to Slipknot because he wants people to think he's edgy.
