All I know is that there are at least 3 schools around here doing Seussical the Musical.
Anyone notice the same thing, or have Any kind of insight into why that might be?
big cast
will get lots of audience
Just I guess,
just seems weird it being so common right now.
I figured there must have been something with the rights to the show involved.
I was in Seussical a couple years ago.
It sucks.
One of the high schools invited the cast of our show to see their dress rehearsal for free, i didnt get to go but i heard the same thing.
Blech.
Its also really more of a middle school show
It's a great family show that will sell a lot of tickets and has very flexible casting.

I have to disagree. If done correctly, the show can be a really good one. Unfortunately, its mostly middle schools doing it, therefore it really doesn't get a very good reputation.
I loathe Seussical... it destroys the dignity of two birds with one stone; musical theatre and Dr. Seuss. Bleeccch. If my school ever did it I honestly would transfer for a year.
i'm with the sleepyguy up there, if done correctly this can be a fantastic show. the problem lies in the middle schools taking over because it is a very child-friendly show.
i just did it my senior year in high school, it went super (i was the 'conceptual artist' sounds fancy, eh?) if you're interested here's a link, there are more pictures than what's on the website...
...damn, nevermind, the photos were taken off the site... lame! if you want to poke around for ****s-and-giggles, be my guest.

be aware that there are actually three versions of Seussical:
1 - The original, two act, full-length version with a large cast.
2 - "Seussical Junior" - one act, around 75 minutes, large cast, designed to be done by middle schools.
3 - "Seussical TYA" (Theatre for Young Audiences) - one act, 75 minutes, designed for a SMALL CAST of adults - in other words, ideal for professional children's theatre companies that have to pay the actors.

Wow, I had no idea. Well we did the full-version so it didn't suck...?

seussical happens to be one of mys favorite musicals
I saw the show with Cathy Rigby in the 2002 tour. I loved it as a kid (9). Now, it gets annoying.
Yeah.. Seussical junior/TYA is annoying. However, I do think it's a good show, although. I did it at a profesisonal theatre a couple years back and the show ran for a couple hours. But it can get a bad impression, especially because middle schools do it alot, and even some high schools that do it are pretty nasty.

The watered down productions really ruin it for me. But the original has some of the best harmonies I've heard in a long time.
The Notice Me Horton harmony still gives me chills.

the article in this week's TIME cites it as the second most performed high school musical, which is kind of weird...

Im going to start that musical in December.
Im really excited,I guess they do it cause it teaches kids about responsbility and other stuff.
Its a fun for kids to watch too.
I enjoyed the OBC a lot, and I think the OBCR is lovely. I could never figure out the animosity some people had toward it all.
