Oh, RAAAAAHHHHB!
Mary definitely got a bad rap, I agree with Dolly.
The amount of business she lost by having god's son as a client must have been substantial.
I mean, talk about a tough act to follow. I bet a lot of guys felt they couldn't measure up.

Again, Matt, I don't know what Christian denominations you're referring to, but my parish is all-inclusive and is currently sponsoring a retreat for Gays and Lesbians. The talks have been uplifting and very supportive.
Do they show porn?
Seriously, to echo what Namo said, politicians don't care about porn. It brings too much $$ into the American economy...but boy does condemning it sound buzzy to Red State types.

....and then it is learned that the Red States types are the ones hording porn in the backs of their closets.
It's so funny how these people always doth protest too much. And then are the ones caught in some bathroom or motel with some confused rentboy or underage prostitute, or on Craiglist seeking the service of anyone.
I'd like to see their search histories and hard drives opened up for inspection.

This reminds me of my favorite episode of Coupling.

Men like porn. Why waste energy fighting something that's been around longer than the written word? Porn existed in Jesus's time; if he had such a big problem with it, he would have specifically brought it up.

amazing to me that no one here has given any thought to the production side

Yawper, that's not this group's intention. They couldn't care less about exploited young people who are paid a pittance to lose their dignity. They think masturbation is evil, regardless of whether someone uses commercial porn with a sleazy producer tempting desperate women with money, or a couple uploading a video they made themselves to a free site, or cartoons and cave drawings.

Amazing to me that no one has actually told us what is wrong with porn. If you are against it, tell me why.

here's part of what's wrong with porn

I think that plot COULD be used to make the Citizen Kane of pornos- imagine a box'o'porn that makes whoever touches it act out one of the scenes depicted inside! I'd take it to the Republican Convention in Tampa for a day, then on BYU to film some good stuff.
To quote Divine's husband, Mr. Fishpaw in John Water's film "Polyester", "My (porn) theatre helps stop rape!"
Unsexy unmotivated performances, unimaginative technique, a lack of sensuality, playfulness, zest and enjoyment; fake breasts, waxing and overgrooming, women faking orgasm, men bringing themselves to orgasm rather than being brought to it by their....
Oh, you mean what's MORALLY wrong with it. Sorry.

The three Vs that killed porn: hiV, Videotape and Viagra.

You know, there's a movie musical to be found in this--sort of a "Footloose" about Republicans.
A young politician comes into Red State to clean up the adult video stores and finds out that there are none because everyone has their own stash.
Nick Jonas would work very well as the lead.
"I think there is some problem when porn oversaturates culture"
What does that even mean?
Name one time that porn has done that.
It was poorly worded but since it's become so easy to find online I think it has changed the way younger people especially think about sex. And I think mostly that's not a good thing. There is no denying that porn has become more mainstream--and I think the fact people talk about more openly is good. But I'm not sure it's a good thing for younger teens to be able to see anything they want (and yes I sound old, and yes I'm talking in circles).

Porn was anything but common when i was 17- I still found it. I guess kids today don't need to spend the hours I did scouring dumpsters or holding down the Cinemax button JUST RIGHT to glimpse a few seconds of I am Curious (Yellow). Maybe one of them will take that time and find the cure for cancer.
I still found it too--and by the time I was 16 or so it was getting easier to find on the net though the WWW still hadn't really happened (this was '96). I dunno, maybe I think if you have to seek it out it's worth more :P Either way I do think ever since it's become just a click away it HAS rapidly become even more a part of the mainstream and I don't think that's all a good thing, as sex positive as I consider myself.
Particularly not for young teens who go to lame American (sorry guys) schools where they don't teach proper sex ed an their parents refuse to discuss sex. Similarly a friend of mine who works at a gay youth center has said how many *under 15* year olds think barebacking is cool--and frankly, while I think an uneducated gay teen who just wanted to have sex and/or feel love would be likely to make the mistake of not having his first time be with a condom, the amount of bareback gay porn has caused problems (and the majority of straight porn is "bareback" anyway--I'm always shocked how many of my straight friends think it's fine as long as the girl is on the pill to not wear a condom).
I'm sure TheatreDiva will disagree with me again, and I don't think I'm really expressing myself clearly anyway to be fair, but...
One last thing to explain my comment--when I have gone recently back to schools with the people I work with, it's obvious how much more a part of teens; lives porn is. And as much as I think porn is largely a good or at least safe thing, I don't think that's a good thing. It was never as openly discussed or even shown on portable devices (obviously) ten or more years back. And again without the proper context I don't think that's a good thing
