Loved it! And she sounded great!

And, exactly, how does breaking Madonna's record for most iTunes pre-orders constitute a flop? I'd say the album is off to a good start.

I spent many years working in the music biz. There is a always a record you can break. This gaga project is not performing anywhere near expectations.

At worst, "Applause" is a moderate hit. And it's just the first single, she has much better material on her side. Personally, as a fan, I'm more interested that the song is good than how it does on the charts. Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus are topping the iTunes charts at this very moment, so there's the gauge of quality right there.

But then again, you're not even a fan. So why do you care? And for someone who claims to have spent much time in the music business, you do seem to enjoy consistently putting down a talented and highly successful woman who is doing right by her genre by putting actual effort into the work.

Is it a single single? Or a special preview single or sneak single? I feel like we should just link all previous discussions of MDNA,

I'm just a little bored by the Gaga schtick now. She has some fun tunes I enjoy but nothing I feel passionate about or anything. I certainly have never thought of her music as "eclectic" and Applause doesn't sound like it's heading towards eclectic.

Lady Gaga puts "actual effort" into her work? Oh honey he's done nothing for what- two years? Mozart could have written three operas and several concertos in that time. As the Pet Shop Boys once said (about another "musical sensation") "She's made such a little go a long, long way."

It's just a buzz single!

Name that is how you sell a big Album these days! Release a mediocre first single, THEN hit them with the GREAT stuff somewhere down the road. It's called "Doing a Kanye."

Thanks Namo! I couldn't recall the name for a single that's not really a single depending on how well it's doing with absolutely no promotion whatsoever.

It must needs be a focal point of a routine at a sporting event. The strategy is called "Single? Not it!"

"No promotion whatever"? How much do you think just this Good Morning 'Merica escapade cost Gaga and her label? This single has had massive promotion.

Nothing? Honey, do you really mean touring the world and producing the bulk of a new album, because that would be a tad more accurate What the Ga?

Nevertheless, I'll let you guys get back to studying the charts with Miley, Katy, and Drake..... Updated On: 9/11/13 at 06:21 PM

This is from a year ago but I strongly recommend that Lucious, broadway86, ATJ, etc., take a peek: http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/lady-gaga/articles/144803/title/lady-gagas-born-way-era-what-went-wrong

Liza, I have already read that article. And truthfully, I agree with pretty much all of it. I am not blind to the fact that the BTW era could have been handled better, and I do take note of her missteps. But strategic factors aside, that doesn't change how I feel about the album itself, in that I consider it to be her best work so far.

Again, thank you for posting it, but I am a fan until she lets me down. And an article criticizing what she and her team have handled incorrectly isn't going to change that. The "Artpop" material so far (first single sorta-kinda included) sounds terrific, and I'm looking forward to it. So, there's that. Updated On: 9/11/13 at 06:32 PM

I'm an Oz geek probably more than most, but I couldn't get past the first few minutes. She has a decent voice on Over the Rainbow, but she looked so bored and detached and clueless.

As soon as her own song kicked in, it sounded like a computer singing, per usual. And the lyrics had nothing to do with Oz or anything thematic about that story, no matter what she claims. Her wigs were ugly. Her costumes were ugly. The set was ugly.

But other than that, I liked it a lot.
