There you go!
We're calling STORES (ones like Virgin and Best Buy, no less! And yes, I *did* read the explanation...) "endangered," now? Talk about bastardization of a term.
Avoid online stores? Obviously you don't live - and therefore are not forced to shop - in Manhattan.
'Scuse me, but we're busy dirnking here....

Indie stoes and chains r endangered; i there a better wod?
And it's up to u if u want to shop at online stores because of convenience. For me, I'd opt for the 20-25 min drive to my fav indie bookstore vs shopping online ... same'd be true for humongous crowds; it's all about morals and principles, ya know?
But to each his own :)
It's not worth an argument, but even in seeing your explanation when someone else questioned this, I see a big, big difference between something that's known nationwide at the very LEAST and an "indie" store. It bothers me that a term like "endangered" is being used to describe symbols of America's mass capitalism, but whatever. If someone wants to walk around with a "SAVE BEST BUY!" sandwich board and try to collect some funds to make sure a chain store doesn't become "extinct" (heaven forbid!), be my guest.
Just my pocket change.

Whatever
This worlds going to hell anyway.
Did you SERIOUSLY just count Best Buy and Virgin Megastore as "small, independent chains"? God, your head must be so far up your ass that you can see your own molars if you consider these on the same level as a local indie music store. Best Buy and Virgin are both publically traded companies, which completely trumps any "indie" arguments.
Not to mention the fact that online shopping has allowed small-time retailers in niche markets to finally get out there on the international level, with the same availability as the big time corporations. You *really* need to know what you're talking about before you start on some ridiculous campaign like this to delude others into thinking you're informed about the world.

Hahaha.

1) I said online stores "and other" conglomorates; online stores basically meaning amazon.com, which is a "major" online chain and a huge part of why indie stores r vanishing ... I do know about booksense.com; I'm not blind, as the link is obviously right there on websites of indie bookstores 2) It is always better to shop at the actual stores, but if one can't, they can do it at booksense.com; I never said they couldn't 3) Think before u post
You're only making yourself look more and more incompetent with every post.

How is explaining something being incompetant?
And I said indie stories "and" smaller chains; that's what "/" implied. Tower was a large chain, but with the threat to record stores, they had been a smaller chain endangered for the past year. There was a threat to their existence; thus, they were endangered. And now they're about to be destroyed. It is wrong, yes ... and it makes me extremely angry. For this is not "progress," but rather something that's all about money and nothing else.
Skittles,
No need to be so nasty. The name calling is childish.

I love you Diva.
Im almost finished my Christmas shopping. I bought most of my gifts in Tower, Virgin, and Barnes & Noble. Do I pass? Sorta? I also made a gift, but I cant post about it cuz he reads this board.
I need ideas for my grandma. Shes your typical foreign old lady, you know, where you cant tell the difference between her dresses and nightgowns and hasnt worn pants in her life.

Thanks so much, Sweets :)
I have always -- well, obviously not always, but for many years -- cared deeply about fighting for what is right, and I think we can all agree that preserving indie stores and small/"endangered" chains -- such as Virgin, Wherehouse, Best Buy (any record store nowadays -- except for price clubs such as Costco -- are in danger), local community booksellers, etc -- is so extremely important; and after searching around the web, the beyond sad announcement of Tower Records shuttering -- really because of a lack of record sales -- was a wake-up call to some people, I think.
I am not going to write an entire essay or anything on why indies and small/endangered chains are important; frankly, it would be a waste of time here. All that I ask is for you all to look in your hearts and do the right thing. Just because the same exact product is cheaper in this other store doesn't always make it right; if the cheaper store is part of a huge conglomorate and the competitor is a small chain or an independent, all the conglomorate is doing is betting on the public's gullibility.
And unfortunately, the conglomorate almost always wins.

Two out of three ain't bad ... u bought most of the stuff at Tower and Virgin, which is awesome. Towers closing, but people still buying stuff there says a lot :).
As for ur gramma, how bout a colorful sweater and some other stuff then? Nothin like bright color to make u feel younger.
i would buy her a sweater, but it wouldnt be worth it. she has this one grey old one thats shes fixed and sewn a billion times and whenever someone tries to buy her a new one to replace it shes like, "wow, its so pretty... do you want it?" I would buy her the Columbo DVD box set but she doesnt have a DVD player and if she did, she probably wouldnt remember how to use it anyway.

Then do what my old Japanese relatives do: buy her food lol
Go to like Sees or something
Mistress_Spouzic, try Target. They're a small, endangered chain company by tmm's standards.
When I saw that you (SweetQ) posted, I right away predicted the comment was in someway mean or condemning. I apologize, I must get going. I am sorry I am unable to wait for your "group" to arrive to continue degrading.

Well, well skittles. You're a bit bitter.
The only thing I said in this thread was, "I love you Diva."
I sure don't know why you are having such an attitude against me (and tmm, for that matter)

No need to edit your original post, skittles.
I'm not sure how you are interpreting my comment of "I love you Diva."
If you are refering to something else, I'd like to know.
I love you too, Q
And I'm worried about Skittles. She seems to be in a mood.
