JB2, such a tragic death! So young. My wife is an AEA actor and I appreciate all that the union does for the profession!
I was 2 and in a small town in diapers in 1969.

this Pat Quinn.
Oopsie.

WW, you should at least look up the other Pat Quinn.
The Illinois Pat Quinn is a well respected man of integrity who has devoted his life to the citizens of this state!

Yes! Of course, we were really young in 1969. My wife worked with him, the very next year (although, I didn't meet her until 1973). He, Melanie and I watched the moon landing together; and, Melanie and I were together when we heard of the horrible deaths of Sharon Tate and her house guests. What a crazy summer 1969 was!

You know, I'm unfamiliar with him so I've been trying to look him up ever since JB2 posted that pic. All I get is Magenta, the Lt. Governor and a hockey player. I'm sorry to hear it was a tragic death. Where could I look to find out more? I didn't mean to be insensitive with my little joke.

I found that pic on his website, and from what I read he does sound like a wonderful man. I wish we could have more politicians like him.

and, for the record, this is Melanie Mayron. Anyone remember her?

Posted: 11/2/06 at 11:37pmThank you. I had tried that, but adding "Equity" to the search took me right there. I do remember reading about this at the time.

Posted: 11/3/06 at 1:28amI love Melanie Mayron. She was my favorite on Thirtysomething. I even wrote her a letter and told her have much I enjoyed her acting. She wrote me back and sent me a picture. I think she is a great actress. I wish she would do a play on Broadway.

I remember the summer of '69 very well. I was six years old, living in Lawrence, Kansas, and two "events" happened that effected my life for years to come... all of our lives in fact.
I was watching my grandmother's old B&W TV, and suddenly I became VERY upset that they kept showing Dorothy singing "Over the Rainbow," and nobody had told me that my favorite movie was on! They showed her singing that song quite a bit that day... and then my grandmother finally told me that the actress who played Dorothy had died earlier that day. I was stunned as I watched her singing so beautifully, and my grandmother was telling me she was gone now. I didn't know a thing about how her death would set off a chain of events beginning in a small bar in the Village, and what that would mean to me as I became older. But I watched this small B&W TV, and saw the end of a legendary life.
And it was only a matter of weeks that summer that separated another life-changing event. Watching the same small B&W TV, I began to realize that ANYTHING was possible... as my family silently observed the first man walking on the moon.
1969 was also the summer my family went to NY to attend my uncle's wedding... and my grandfather had arranged for me to have a private meeting backstage with Margaret Hamilton while she was performing in the "new" Lincoln Center's revival of "Oklahoma!" Maggie was another Oz alumn, and she would become my pen pal the following school year, when I started 2nd grade.
