That makes sense, though, as a stage manager, I would have to fight every fiber of my being to say "No late seating" (not that that rule is really enforced across the board in theatres, but I often wish it was)

I think one issue is... Did they even have a TV show yet? I mean, I'm somewhat aware of preschool TV due to my two year old niece and four year old nephew, and this has never been on my radar--to sell a movie like this to that market, I think you'd need some sort of franchise recognition.

Apparently the film somehow cost $20 mill to make, and $40 to market (!!). The producer is claiming though that it succeeded in what they wanted--getting the name and some notoriety out there.
