I think being unaccompanied to this one without any child and over the age of 12 may give people the wrong idea. But yes to the acid.

Now I've always wondered, if absolutely nobody has bought a ticket for a showing, and judging by those numbers that had to have happened multiple times at multiple theaters across the country, do they even bother turning on the projector? Can they save a few bucks on their electric bill and just not run it?

I'm a little surprised that it bombed THAT badly. The commercials were always on TV. I guess even 5-year-olds have taste.

I can actually answer that one, having worked in a movie theater (for a few weeks)

It's done because people always buy tickets after a movie starts so in case someone does that, it's playing. Stupid, but true.
