Isn't Diet Coke with lime Divine, dollypop?

I've been soda free for three years! Okay, I have cheated a bit...I suffered from a minor Coke Blak addiction for like a month. But I never felt good after drinking it....ugh...syrupy yuck!
Recently I've been trying to cut high fructose corn syrup out of my diet and man is it hard! That junk is in everything!

Ginger ale and root beer, with natural flavors, are actually considered "tonics" and are supposed to have some health benefits. They're made from roots. Birch beer and sarsparilla are oldtime health "tonics" also.
I do indulge in both. I like to mix the ginger ale with cider or tea, sometimes all three together, ginger ale, cider & tea. I even toss root beer into tea and it tastes pretty good.
Licorice (the real thing) and cinnamon also have health benefits. I toss cinnamon into hot tea or put a cinnamon stick in.

I was addicted until I heard in HIGH SCHOOL that is was bad for you. My parents never said so.
I had been Pepsi/Coke-free for MONTHS until recently. I have a *need* for a good Pepsi with ice when I'm really stressed. It's like the occasional cigarette, but C2O.

Speaking of Tonics! Diet Coke PLUS just hit the market! It's diet coke fortified with vitamins and minerals! We are inching ever closer to the day when we can live completely on Diet Coke! Now, moms can give their kids a can of Diet Coke Plus in the morning and know that they have giving their kids a head start on the day!

And Jaily, your information is so far off base that it would be laughable if there weren't so many people eager to believe it. Your stomach acids are far far far more acidic than Coke-- as is ORANGE JUICE for that matter. Your body does not dissolve bones to de-acidify anything.

Posted: 4/18/07 at 11:17amI drink diet on occasion, but I've definately cut down. My personal favorite is Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper. It sounds complicated, but it's wonderful.

Really? So it's perfectly fine to go pouring mass-produced synthesized acids down your gullet? I like Snopes as much as the next guy, but they tend to be a little oversimplistic.
The debate continues to rage on about the effects that consumption of large quantities of phosphoric acid has on the human body...it has, in several studies, been shown to be a very probable cause of low bone density, and there is NO question that consuming highly acidic and overly-sweetened beverages causes immense damage to tooth enamel, and frequently causes erosion of the oral mucosa.
You can hide your head in the sand all you want and justify your consumption (and I am not meaning "you' specifically, but "you" as in the general soda-drinking population), but the bare fact is that these drinks are HORRIBLE for you. Coca-cola, for example, has a specific pH of 2.5. TWO POINT FIVE. Gastric acid is 2.0. Battery acid is .5.
But, hey, go for it. 's not my body, pour whatever you want into it :)

Since I've started working at Starbucks, I just don't seem to drink pop as much. Instead I drink Passion Tea Lemonades like there's no tomorrow.
Probably every bit as unhealthy, but oh-so-delicious.

Perhaps I'm confused, Jaily, but don't those numbers mean that Coca-cola is less acidic than stomach acid?
I've actually had a doc tell me to drink some flat Coke as it would settle my stomach. I thought Coke (at least flat) was supposed to be more alkaline on your stomach.

#42re: Who likes being soda-free?
Posted: 4/18/07 at 11:53amYes, of course it means it's less acidic, but not by very much. The point was to show how close in pH the two substances are. Neither one are something I'd want to take a swig of.

#44re: Who likes being soda-free?

Posted: 4/18/07 at 3:28pmI’ve heard for weight loss/weight maintenance it is actually better to drink regular soft drinks (in very limited amounts). You end up eating MORE calories if you drink diet because of the artificial sweetener doesn’t curb your desire for real sugar.

I've heard that too Hum but can tell you it sure didn't work that way for me. I counted calories, lost well over 100 pounds have have kept it off for over 5 years.
And Rath look for Diet Coke Plus in your local stores! I believe it is 12 pack cans or individual 20 oz. only to start. They got it at my local Jewel (Alberston's) this week. It's the perfect way to start your day! "Each 8 oz serving provides 15% of your minimum daily requirement of Niacin..."
