Who loves to write in their diary?

I absolutely love writing in my diary and could not live without it. It's such a nice time to sit and express thoughts. Sometimes I even think of things during the day that I want to write about that night. I just find it a healthy way to release stress and to wind down.
Any other diary fanatics?

Posted: 6/14/08 at 9:48pmI attempted to keep a diary many times, but it only lasted a week. Not even. I'd be really gung-ho at the start, but then I'd lose interest by week's end. Furthermore, I tended to write several times a day, about every little thing I did, so I think I exhausted my topics (not to mention myself) more than anything.

I have had a livejournal for 5 years now, and I wouldn't give it up for the world. I do have phases where I don't write as much as normal, but I always come back.
I've tried to keep a written journal only for myself, but for some reason, I just can't stay with it. I guess if no one reads what I write, I have no motivation to keep going.

Posted: 6/14/08 at 10:20pmI've had the same diary since like the 3rd grade. I try to write in it every day but that never really happens. So I've been kind of been writting in it on and off for the past nine years.

I'm not certain what the difference is between a diary and a journal. In leather bound books I write down daily events and reflections, but not on a daily basis. I do write my travel experiences. I travel a lot. I keep ideas for potential projects. Story ideas for possible or imagined films and things that happen to me that could be used in stories. Sometimes those get fleshed out and actually worked into a draft of a script or manuscript. The journal goes in leather blank books. An actual manuscript goes on a computer.
Privacy is key to the journal.
I use LJ just to keep up with a few like-minded people, but I'm not there much recently. I haven't "left LJ", I'm just not there much recently.

Posted: 6/14/08 at 10:25pmJust out of curiosity, how safe is it to keep a private LJ online? I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm not sure if site monitors will read it. I'm not planning on writing anything bad, but I just want to keep some things private, you know? That's a big problem with writing very personally in a real journal - there is always the fear that someone will read it. Thanks

I've kept a journal since I was 12. A legit, spiral bound, write in it with a pen, journal. It's always been a great outlet for me.
I've had a livejournal since 2001. I still keep up with both the real journal and LJ though I write in them very differently. The LJ is to keep up with friends across the country that I don't really talk to as often as I'd like. My real journal is for me. Something very detailed so I can look back on it later and life and be able to relive those memories again.

broadwaywriter, LJ is not the place to be assured of privacy. Keep a notebook computer offline for that. Anything that goes online can be read by others. There are millions of LJ accounts, so the likelihood of someone reading your private entries is slim, but the staff at LJ can access your password, (likely not, but they can.
There was an abuse case a few years ago where someone not following LJ guidelines had their private correspondence and entries read by LJ staff without a court order. So if you want absolute privacy, don't go there.

I have a LiveJournal and a paper/pen journal. The LiveJournal receives the vast majority of my outpourings, which is a REAL shame for those on my friends list. I save the paper/pen journal for my periods of angst where I need to spill my guts about something but don't want anyone to read it. Consequently, I have notebooks full of me whining about boys. It's VERY awful reading. XD
