If this is the thing that Angelica Houston directed and also stars Andie MacDowell, then I'm going to check it out......

"Beth (O'Donnell), who is a self-centered, mentally challenged woman"

So, not really a stretch for her...

I love Rosie. A lot.

But I have a feeling a copy of this movie may become my second most prized possession after my vhs copy of The Joan and Melissa Rivers Story. Starring Joan Rivers. And introducing Melissa Rivers as herself.

Love Rosie, as all know already.

I'm told it's a very cheesy film, with great acting.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

This OF MICE AND MEN sub-genre is a staple of movies of the week, and personally, I find the existence of another in 2005 rather comforting. But I'm at a point where I sometimnes find comforting entertainment (like the new film with the Dames Maggie and Judy) just what I need to get through the week. Bravo to Rosie for buying a book that's built on cynisim.

I respect Rosie. She should not be made fun of.
After seeing "Show Business" at the Tribeca film festival I have even more respect for her.
She has passion for theater. It shows.
She has done a lot for theater.
Thank you Rosie!

Does Andie McDowell "accidently" run her over while backing up the bus?

Caravaggio, you're close. This one is Riding The Bus With My Sister.

That one would be Running Over My Sister With The Bus.

I think it should be called "Get Rid of My Sister So I Can Make Out With The Bus Driver"

Addy, I'm with you on those commercials. The one with the little boy who got a card from the teacher because he stayed indoors for recess with a sick child? Ohh...

#23minority opinion -- I thought she was swell

I face ridicule here, or worse, but aside from the ghastly scenes of McDowell and her prissy on/off boyfriend, designed to show us what a cold and unfeeling "career woman" she is, I thought the movie scored its points, limited canvas that it is. I found Rosie's approach to the father's death in the first act so harrowing and heartfelt, through the funeral sequence, that I forgave her other excesses. And for all its Hallmark tone and trappings, it didn't sentimentalize mentally handicapped people as many such movies do. She was truly a goal-less person, not a big softie looking for her place. She wanted to remain childish and childlike, and they portrayed the myriad problems in that limitaton. I was impressed that the story dramatized the problem of sexuality/reproduction, and that everyone in the film didn't find her lovable. The character was presented as selfish and self-centered, and off-putting. I totally understood why Rosie was drawn to the material of course, and thought she acquited herself well.

On a not unrelated topic: I wonder, however, about CBS's decision to start May Sweeps with this project, up against HOUSEWIVES. Odd programming. I guess I assume that Rosie remains a lightning rod figure in middle America, and a MOW with her starring would have the potential to invoke controversy, especially considering the way she used its promotion as a platform to voice her disdain for many issues dear to the target audience (like Bush). Brava to Rosie, but CBS is certainly bold -- or, one might say, not sufficiently competitive? Anyone heard about the overnights? I'll be curious to see how its demographics stack up against DESPERATE's.

No attack here. I liked it, with the exception of McDowell, who I don't think was the right actress for the part.
