I've never understood this. It happens every time I go to the movies that 2 or 3 minutes before the movie ends, handfuls of people get up and leave.
A friend and I went to see LEGION this afternoon (which I guess I could have understood with that film) but it's every movie I go to.
What is that??? And why does it bother me so much? lol

In the good old days when we had "Adult" theaters, Guys who had seen "Powertool 6" before would get up and leave after the last sex scene, giving the rest of us the cue to get up and leave too, before the lights came up.
But other than that...never seen it happen.

...what? I've never seen that happen.
I might consider taking it personally if I were you.
Well, at the screening of NINE I attended 4 or 5 of the ten of us in the theatre left after "Be Italian"...
I do agree, Jordan. I'll never forget when 2 people in front of me got up and left at the start of the final scene of THERE WILL BE BLOOD... missing the whole "milkshake" speech and Kubrick homage and everything... though I get the feeling it wasn't their sort of thing, anyway. Why sit through a boring movie when you can incessantly text and twit, TWIT being the operative term... ugh...
It drives me up the wall, as well. Same with leaving at intermission.
P
My philosophy is that I paid $10 to see this movie and dammit I am going to sit until the end, even if it kills me.
Funny story: When my girlfriend and I went and saw Godzilla in the movie theaters when I was in High School, a few of our friends were there and all they did was make out. The guy turned around and said, "DJ, why aren't you two making out?" I said, "I paid $6 to see this movie. If I wanted to make out, I would have gone somewhere for free."
I see it constantly. Maybe it's just a NYC thing.
And when I saw ROCKY HORROR in Chelsea last Friday night two people in the back row were having sex. Full out sex. They were beyond drunk and let me tell you, it was HILARIOUS.
Probably to avoid the traffic when everyone leaves.
Well, that and to piss off Jordan.
And it works! lol
I've noticed it but it doesn't piss me off nearly as much as the a**holes that CHARGE for the exits the second the lights go down at the end of a play. I hate people who won't stay for the curtain call.
I hate when I go to a concert and people start leaving before the encore. I mean duh. The lights haven't come up. They are coming back out. And probably going to perform a few of their biggest hits.
I hate it when you're having sex and the other person gets up to leave before the climax. Bummer.
THAT is the worst, Taz. Especially when you've paid good money.
I have a friend who cures depression by spending a full day at the movies. She buys one ticket to an early show (only $6 at the Empire on 42nd) and theatre hops. To dodge the staff, she has to leave the movie a minute or two early to avoid being caught.
singtopher, I do that all the time. I make sure to start out on one of the top floors so that you have to go down anyways. Once you do that there's nobody to stop you.
Jordan, you are not right.
I think that the only movie I have ever walked out of early was Nine. And, that was due to the fact that the character of Guido was one that was pissing me off to no end. Never have I hated a character so much. And, I didn't walk out after Be Italian, I walked out after Cinema Italiano.
I have been raised that I don't leave something until it is done. I have grown up going to Jets games all my life and we never left until the clock ran down to zero in the fourth quarter, regardless of the outcome. Same thing when we go to baseball games.
This is a problem I have ONLY encountered in New York theatres. It doesn't matter if I'm at the Empire 25 or a hole-in-the-wall art house, New Yorkers are by far the most self-important filmgoers. They talk throughout, text, and almost always rush out the second the image fades out, if not moments before.
I used to attend a lot of local press screenings and critics would leave early ALL the time.
I wanna know why people leave WICKED right before "Defying Gravity". Two people left, but not together, right before "Defying Gravity" started and they didn't come back.
Really? You're gonna miss the best song in the show?
After watching 10 minutes of closing credits such as who the caterer was, I guess they feel they have had enough torture.
