Nice, Papa. Nice.
Why is America so uptight about nudity, you ask? Maybe it's because most of America is uptight conservative baby boomers who think that the reason there's so much cussing in Spaceballs is because they're watching the director's cut. Which they're not!!!!!!!!
Bare it all is the motto of the day

nudity = vulnerability and/or gross out (ya really wouldn't want to see me nekkid)
violence = sense of control/(false) power/superiority

I've always wondered that myself. It probably has to do with all the conservative religious freaks in this country. They seem to think that any bare body part has to do with some perverse sexual act. Unfortunately these people are so closed minded that they'll never realize that nudity is the most natural thing in life.
the art teacher at my elem school planned a field trip to the high museum of art here in atlanta. just to cover her butt (so to speak), she mentioned in the permission letter that the students might see works of art containing nudity. she had to cancel the trip because so many parents wouldn't sign the permission form. now that tells you a LOT.
also, invariably, when our students see any type of nudity in a photo or illustration, they say "ewwwwww, that's NASTY." that tells you even MORE.
I went to a catholic school growing up, where in "Family Life" class, we got to read books that told us "Petting is a No No", "No one other than your future husband/wife should touch you in places your bathing suit covers", etc. Now people understand why I went make out crazy in HS, haha!
I actually don't think America is that uptight about nudity anymore as a whole. Yeah there are still the ultra conservatives, but mostly every TV show/movie has some type of nudity. The whole Janet Jackson thing? Just a reason for people to bitch and moan. I don't think most people actually cared, but it gave them a chance to complain and think they were morally higher than others. Just a thought.
It proves that we are taught to be ashamed of naked bodies. They are "inappropriate" to many people, even in museum paintings, sculpture, photography, and other artwork.
This is why I find far too many adults with serious issues about nudity, sex, love, etc. It's like they're four years old, and never really advanced beyond "pooders" and "ding dongs."
Such an unhealthy, uptight attitude! And there are a lot of people out there who feel this way. To me, THAT'S the embarrassing part. Adults who can't deal with nakedness and find it dirty.
Sexual retards.
The Janet Jackson thing still pisses me off. You didn't even see anything!

Nude sculptures are art. Nudity can be beautiful. Why is it considered to be "gross"? Updated On: 12/31/06 at 12:51 PM

The reaction to the picture papa posted also proves the point of this thread.
Nudity is only okay if the perpetrators are classically attractive.
Well, forgive me for wanting to see attractive people. And come on. Are you going to tell me, with a straight face, that you find that palatable?

You are correct, Rath.
nudity is only okay if the perpetrators are classically attractive.
are you calling me ugly?
It doesn't matter what I find palatable, Rose. I didn't give an opinion here and then quickly backtrack because of one picture.
