First, it promotes stability. How can that be a bad thing. Second, it enables gay couples to reap the same benefits as straight couples without jumping through expensive legal hoops. Third, how can any group (read straight) whose divorce rate is throught the roof say that straight marriage is sacred and the only way marriage is supposed to be?
As to the religious among my political party, have you even READ Leviticus? Either you take the Bible literally, in it's entirety, or you don't. Simple as that. You can't cherry-pick quotes to suit your purposes if you don't live up to the book entire. It is also God's word, written by MEN (who may have their own agenda---look at the Catholic Church!). Since God created ALL of us, and I am not privy to his plan, my job on earth is to love everyone---the only person I have to judge is myself, and how I treat people.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm getting annoyed at the holier than thou types in the media!
As a republican and a Christian I second what she says. Not all of us are the monsters that a few loud mouths portray us as.
Yes, you are both intelegent, open minded, kind hearted people.
So why are you Republicans?
To try to keep the loonies in check.
What penguin said. It sucks that opinions like yours are in the VAST minority of the Republican party.
I have argued the bible until I am blue in the face with people who want to use it as an argument against homosexuality and gay marriage. The same people who want to say that the bible says "homosexuality is wrong" say that the New Testament is a "new covenant" and thus sacrificing animals, women being isolated during "that time of the month" and not eating pork are no longer required. I ask them to find me one time that Christ mentioned homosexuality. They usually point to the Old Testament. Can't have it both ways.
I forgot which nut job it was, but there was a thread on here about a guy who was advocating stoning homosexuals by passing out small bags of stones with instructions on them. I went to his website and there was a search feature where you could search for a topic in the Bible. I typed in homosexuality. NOTHING came up. NOTHING.
I initially registered Republican 25 years ago believing it was better to undermine an organization from within (I've long been one of the most liberal members of my family). I have grown more conservative, in some areas, over the years which is a fairly natural progression. I equally dislike some liberals and conservatives based on THEIR performance, not their party's, but as I grow older, I can't decide who scares me more---the ultra left or the ultra right. These are the people who make the news, and both sides are equally disturbing!
The ultra left seems to have less common sense, which is not in their favor (I will explain what I mean if you'd like---I'm not trying to make a blanket statement about liberal thinkers), and the ultra right wants to impose their religious beliefs on the rest of the country (pretty self-explanatory, I think). I find myself squarely in the middle, with a healthy distrust towards the news media.
Kel, would those be the loonies in the White House?
Just a note: The story about the minister passing out stones turned out to be satire. Not that the pastor in question wasn't a nut, but the stone story was just part of a "What local prominent people are passing out this Halloween" joke.

I'm glad it's a joke, but it doesn't SOUND like one---that is so sad!
