In all fairness, when it comes to Planet of the Apes, it couldn't really get much worse than the original.
Willy Wonka on the other hand is a classic, and I am wondering just what Tim will do? It should be interesting in any case.

Posted: 12/8/03 at 11:23pmPlanet of the Apes was his one mistake. I for one can't wait to see what he does with Willy Wonka. Especially after hearing the advance buzz on Big Fish.

I remember when Johnny Depp AND Christopher Walken's names were being thrown around as possible Willy Wonkas.
Personally, I would of loved to see Walken try his hand at it. It would be so delightfuly creepy and insane.

Posted: 12/9/03 at 9:29amALways keep in mind that the author of the 'Willy Wonka' book hates the original movie but he loved the Burton-produced adaptation of 'James and the Giant Beach.'

Posted: 12/9/03 at 8:57pmoooh--nice to hear, JohnPopa. I love the original Willy Wonka, but a Tim Burton version (aka darker and the design) will be amazing I bet. =)

Posted: 12/10/03 at 1:24pmChristopher Walken is one of my favorite Actors of all time, so I would love to see him in it. :)

So is this show going to be some dark new twist on the plot? I mean, afterall, the movie was a little too cherry and happy. But yet, at the same time, kids got sucked up tubes of chocolate and almost die. And other people continuously get "kocked off" throughout the movie. I also thought that movie was a little odd.
AND WHAT ABOUT THE OOMPA-LOOMPA's? They will be so horrifing.

Posted: 12/10/03 at 10:56pmhmmm, perhaps Walken can play Slugworth? Is that character in the book, or was he added on for the movie? I always found him to be rather creepy.

Posted: 12/11/03 at 12:09amI would rather see Walken as Wonka...creeeeepy!

Posted: 12/11/03 at 6:41amI love it when Johnny Depp and Tim Burton make films together! :) As much as I hated the original movie (book was WAY better), it's hard to see even Johnny topping the performance given by Gene Wilder. On another note--anyone else remember when Marilyn Manson was in talks to play Willy Wonka? Now THAT would've been a disaster.

Uh, I thought Roald Dahl died in 1990, about 6 years before James was made into a movie!? ::confused::

Posted: 1/6/04 at 9:27pm...this scared me half to death. I thought 'Horsey!!!' was back when I saw her name under the thread.

Posted: 1/6/04 at 9:31pmI apologize then. Dahl's estate must've been the ones endorsing Burton's movie.

Posted: 1/7/04 at 1:40pmI didn't mind Planet of the Apes. The costumes, makeup, and movement were astonishing. The story wasn't that great to begin with. I think this is a great idea. I just wish he'd return to the Sweeney Todd project.

Posted: 1/7/04 at 4:36pmI love Johnny Depp, but I'd have liked to see Christopher Walken as Willy Wonka...I'd hope Burton would make Willy Wonka a darker, creepier character, and I think Walken would have done this wonderfully...Johnny Depp's too hot to be creepy. Then again, my taste in men isn't the best...

I liked Edward Scissorhands.
lol
Also, one of my favroite movies: Nick of Time. It's a great story, plus it has three of the greatest actors ever: Johnny Depp, Chrisrpher Walken, and Marsha Mason!

#24re: re: re: 'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory'
Posted: 1/8/04 at 8:27amActually in the book Willy Wonka doesn't sing, so Johnny won't have to worry about it.
