Well, Venus is through, and Serena looks to be completely obliterating Zheng - so perhaps all the trophies (including doubles) will be in the Williams' hands.
Right now, I'm looking forward to the Rog/Marat match.

Well, here's the head-to-head stats for Roger and Marat. Roger is quite open about NEVER taking him lightly, so the 'intent' in the match should be really high. Part of me would LOVE to see a great five-setter, because I think these two spark each other on. BUT, if Rog makes it through, he's going to need everything he's got for Rafa. In the end, if Rog does win this, he will have earned it, I think.
As to today, the rain delay is interesting. Serena doesn't do well with interuption, and Zheng seems to have pulled herself up by her shoe-strings. Could be very interesting to see where that goes.

Well, Serena prevailed - but what a thrilling experience for Zheng! I'm actually curious to see how the sisters play each other now - things are a bit different from days gone by. Ultimately, I have no problem with both of them having trophies in their hands
And wow, the Bryans were knocked out. Didn't see that coming at all.

Yep...the Williams gals are through with nearly identical scorelines of 6-1, 7-6 and 6-2, 7-6, Venus and Serena respectively. Man, did Serena put on a serving clinic or what.
That said, their finals are usually painful to watch in terms of tennis quality and often anticlimatic. I just hope both sisters bring their A-games to the final, at the same time.
For some odd reason, I envision a new champion emerging on the men's side. Sorry, DG.

Jav - honestly, it wouldn't bother me - my love for Roger will survive
I actually REALLY like both Rafa and Marat, so either of them prevailing would be a lovely story for different reasons.
But you KNOW who I'll be rooting for!

HA! No, I hadn't - thanks for sharing.
But you know, if they're going to shoot a commercial that's supposedly in his living space, it OUGHT to include a shower scene like it did with Tiger

I wonder if the Bryan brothers are going to end up facing each other in the Mixed Double final.

Onto the finals!
And I'm SURE there was a reason that ESPN2 was showing the taped Williams/Dementieva semi, even though the men's was occuring live.

Federer served brilliantly against Safin. I mean he relentlessly put that first serve in the corners of the service box, especially on the deuce side.
If Fed serves as well against Nadal, he'll win it in 4 sets. He also needs to venture to the net and be very effective there at closing out points. I'm still not convinced that Fed is a comfortable or competent volleyer on grass compared to Sampras, Edberg, Becker, McEnroe and Ashe before him.

Come what may, it HAS to be acknowledged that the sisters are in CONTROL of the Wimby! No matter what happens in the singels, they get both trophies - and at least one of the doubles.
Say what you will, but no one has accomplished that - certainly not while related!
Prediction: Venus for the win.
Hope: Venus for the win
Doubles? Either way, it's not like it looks bad for them - but I still think they'll take it!

Yay, Venus
And with 11 and 13 unforced errors for the MATCH, they were playing some pretty clean tennis! It looked to me like Venus was completely in the groove, while Serena was having to work a bit to settle in. She just couldn't take advantage of those break points!
And I've just got to say, despite the history of mediocre finals between them, I still LOVE to see them both on the court. It's such a 'F*CK You' to the tennis establishment that really never embraced them fairly.
AND, they both looked absolutely beautiful today

Always, Glebby - she'll ALWAYS be the 'big sis', no matter what.
I swear, that woman's big, heart-felt smile is one of the greatest things EVER

I know you love him, Glebby
Obviously, I hope Rog prevails - but Rafa winning wouldn't bother me a BIT!
Bottom-line: As a tennis fan in general, I think Rafa should win. But, in my heart, I just always want my Rog.
