Yes, I can just see the attacks coming but I just feel the need to start this thread and express how I am feeling.

My mom just told me my cousin is gay.
My dad is a dentist and my aunt (his sister) came into the office yesterday to get her teeth cleaned. She told my dad that he- her son (my cousin) came out to her the night before. He has been going to a therapist and finally decided he is.

Of course, his whole immidiate family told him they loved him no matter what...etc.

I do not think that he knows that we (the rest of the family) know.

Do I care that he's gay? No. Am I going to treat him differently? No. Am I surprised? Not really. Am I shocked? Of course.

I know it's going to be hard to him to handle and I'm sure it took a lot of guts to come out but for some odd reason, I have trouble grasping it.
I have no problems with gay guys. Come on- I love gay guys more than anyone else! I find they are nicer and they sure dress nicer!

He's always been into theatre and Broadway shows. He has never talked about girls (in relationship terms) and I guess I've always kind of suspected it a way which is why I am confused as to why I am shocked.

He is 24.

No pictures. Besides, I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable posting them.

btw, I do wear something a bit better than a pea soup vomit laden nightgown...but not much better.

SweetQ, self examination of your feelings is good, but I wouldnt worry too much. I assume once you see him again, everything will be fine.

That makes about as much sense as most of the other things you've ever posted.

How do you know that? Do you live inside his head? If he's seeing a therapist and successfully came out to his immediate family after deciding that's what he wanted to do and they told him they love him no matter what, he's probably a lot further down the acceptance road than you are.

As much as I'd like this to a supportive, reasonable thread, I understand some people cannot take it as such. I was hoping some people can learn what being nice is but alas, I guess not.
