Sounds like the police shot a mentally disturbed man walking in and out of traffic and two bystanders were wounded in the process.

8th Ave is shut down between 40th & 44th streets. Two bystanders were graised by bullets and were taken to the hospital as a precaution but should be OK.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

It happened right outside my window. My roommate told me he heard it an my friend downstairs old me he saw it happen. The cops are still there and I'm wondering why they have SO MUCH blocked off. Just seems very strange.

Two women shot! OK, are guns needed with an obiviously distressed mentally ill man acting erratically in traffic? Seems the NYPD need target practice. Firing guns in a crowded venue is always a good idea! Was this guy posing a threat to the officers?

Exactly. Why would the police try to gun down a mentally ill man walking in and out of traffic in a heavily crowded area? That's the only way they could apprehend him?

Granted he may be a danger to himself and to traffic, but is he more dangerous than the officers' bullets flying into the crowds?

MY friend who saw what happened said the man yelled at the police and reached into his pocket and pulled out a phone, pretending it was a gun. That's when the police fired.

Faking a firearm is never a good idea. That's tragic and sad for all concerned.

There is a certainly a demographic that goes to the Port Authority Bus Terminal hoping to take a shot to the tush, but I don't think that this is what they had in mind...

Sounds like a suicide-by-cop.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
