Won't You Let Me Take You On A Gay Cruise

Me and my partner went on a tour package with Aquafest, a Gay and Lesbian travel agent which books about a quarter of cruise ship. We had a great time, and we didn't feel like we had to be "fabulous" every second, and we weren't bombarded with circuit music or Cher every second.
The group had their own private events, but also had plenty of time for the other activities.
I would recommend them!
"Google" Aquafest and check it out.

I was dragged kicking and screaming onto the first one I went on, an RSVP Caribbean cruise, and only agreed to go because it was with a fun group of PalJoey'sPal's old friends.
I ended up loving it so much we signed up for a second RSVP cruise, the Alaska cruise I posted pictures of. It was not only fun--it was also life-changing.
Like any stright cruise, the Love Boat aspect is strong: No one has to drive home or go to work the next day, so the amount of alcohol consumed is large--with consequences. However, unlike straight cruises, the amount of testosterone in the air is also large, and there is much cruising and connecting--and consequences. This can be troublesome for couples or shy singles--or it can be an opportunity.
Of the two companies, Atlantis is the more circuit party-like, with a younger mostly urban crowd. RSVP has a more diverse crowd, more accepting of different body types and social crowds, despite the advertising. But the differences are blending: More bears are going on Atlantis to party and more partyboys are going on RSVP as they get older.
There are small numbers of women on both cruise lines, who prefer cruising with gay boys to cruising with straight families. They are usually treated as fabulous accessories by the boys. There is also the Olivia cruise line for women and, of course, Rosie's cruises for gay families. Rosie gets great Broadway entertainers.
Bottom line: (1) If you're gay and you want to go on a cruise, what's better (or worse): a ship full of gay men or a ship full of straight families and seniors. (2) Go with a group, so there will always be someone fun to hang with--or go ready to ogle and flirt and "socialize." (3) If you're afraid your bf is going on the cruise to ogle and be ogled, you may very well have a nightmare of claustrophobic jealousy, which your relationship may never survive.

I'm with Day. I don't think I can handle that much of a gay concentration. I try to avoid large groups of anything... I prefer a mix. I can't imagine being stuck on a boat of creepy old men cruising me and men saying "honey" and "sweety" to other men all day. (For those of you about to criticize me, I can tell you without question this would happen and it makes me uncomfortable)
I've spent most of my life feeling and being different, it's really hard to adjust to a life where everyone is like me. Also, these exclusive gay events are very artificial to me. It’s like Vegas and Disney World, never once am I fooled. At the end of the day I have to go back to the reality of a world that isn’t staged or organized.
I think Rosie’s cruise is nice for queer families. It’s probably hard to travel as a gay couple with kids in some places. Gay Days at Disney is probably fun too.

Why should I start paying for that?

Posted: 11/21/06 at 2:03pmThose poor girls. Why can't they crave straight men like we do?
#32re: Gay Cruise
Posted: 11/21/06 at 2:04pmSome of us crave straight women. Just as bad.

Gay Disney is joyful and empowering, but it has been fully discussed on the Gay Disney thread.
I also thought I would hate such gay-only events, buit there's a poltical aspect to them, mejust: They are places where we don't have to feel like a minority, where we can hold hands or be butch or nelly and not care.
For people who live in urban centers, this is not such a big deal. But on the RSVP cruises and Gay Days at Diney World, you meet people from small towns who have to hide who they are 358 days out of the year--and feel like they can only be themselves on that cruise or at Gay Days.
Rath--admit it--you're DYING to go on one of Rosie's cruises.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 2:10pmSorry to disappoint, Joey, but a vacation for me would not include being trapped on a boat full of children.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 2:11pmlet's go to Paris together Rath. We can shop for each other.

It's an Atlantis cruise, PJ.
I think it's that I resent being grouped according to gay--I wouldn't go on a trip with a bunch of people that were all from Oklahoma either.
I see it as a big crap shoot and if it's like Fire Island, then I'm not going to like it. And I can't afford to waste money on a horrid vacation.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 2:15pmMy friend went on a Chi Chi Larue Porn Cruise and got mad because they would close down areas of the ship to film. Now the porno cruises would be WAYYYY TOOO much for me if I can't handle the "regular" gay cruise.
#41re: Gay Cruise
Posted: 11/21/06 at 2:17pmAnd yet, I'd actually feel better about the porn cruise--no grey area there!

Posted: 11/21/06 at 2:18pmSoap, how long do you think that will last? This looks a bit intersting. I'd actually love to go on one. For some reason, I doubt I'd be able to drag my partner into a ship for an exteneded period of time.

Dannyboy! I'd could go a year without men *checks watch . . . . taps foot. . . . .looks around. . . * Okay, nevermind. I'm back on men.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 2:36pmThe gay Alaskan cruise is probably the only one that would interest me simply because of the destination. I'm sure the cruises are a lot of fun for a lot of people, but they are not really for me and Jarico. Being trapped on a boat in the ocean is not something that appeals to me in the first place, gay or not. I have a HUGE phobia with large bodies of water. If I can't see land, I freak out.
