Won't You Let Me Take You On A Gay Cruise

The bf's a big fan of these crusies and has been twice. I have never been and don't have any interest.
Am I just being a self-hating homo or just nuts? I guess most guys would jump at the chance, but it just doesn't do it for me.
Any of you boys ever been on one?

The mere thought of these turns me off.
Ditto for circuit parties.
Gross.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 1:02pmno interest here, either but my partner has been on several cruises (gay and straight) and has enjoyed both. i would consider a cruise to rome or australia, if i had to go on a cruise, but i have no interest in going to "the islands."

Cruuuuuuisy...
I've been on SEA TEA which is the 4 hour night time gay cruise in the summer here in the city. Very cruisy, kind of sleazy, but if you're there with friends, it's not so bad.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 1:05pmFunny you should ask. I just got a mailer for RSVP Gay Cruises. I was really put off. As an average gay male, I was offended by only photos of hot guys on the ship. I mean were they trying to ostracize me. After flipping through the brochure I felt if I didn't have a tan and wear lycra, I wouldn't really fit in. It illustrated the worst of our biases in the gay community. Lookism. I recycled the brochure.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 1:06pmI did a Windjammer cruise which was great. It had a small group - about 200 men, and you all help sail the ship. It was really fun. I have never really wanted to do a traditional gay cruise, but six of my friends and I are doing Rosie O'Donells "family" cruise next summer. It is all inclusive gay/lesbian/singles/family which seems more interesting to us, based on the community diversity of it all.

I think I'd feel weird--like on display--I'm not a huge fan of Fire Island either...I think maybe I just have a different idea of a "good time," but I would be with him.
I'm not concerned about what I look like vs. what everyone else looks like--it just seems like a floating party and I'm not much of a big partyer. My idea of a good time is a small group of friends, some smoke and some laughs.
He says his "friends" go too but they'r ereally just superficial acquaintances--he doesn't even know of their last names.
I feel guilty for not wanting to go.

Well, I'd only pay for the flight, but yeah...it's expensive.
I think it embarasses me on some level--I also don't want to look like part of the blue-light special--most of the guys will be older than I...not that I'm just that luscious, but being on the younger end of the scale certainly invites, well, you know...
And if Greg is going to be ogled (which no matter what he says IS part of the appeal for him), he can get ogled on 8th ave...I just don't see why it's necessary to have an exclusively gay cruise.

Never been interested in gay cruises. There are about a million other things I'd rather do with the money than float around on a giant circuit party with no means of escape.

I've never wanted to cruise before, even a gay cruise...but was finally talked into a carribean cruise this winter. I only agreed after friends went last year who know me well and claimed I would love it. They know I dont like to be forced into situations, and this is a very relaxed line.
It's a mixed bag of guests, gay and straight (were going with a straight couple.) Very few kids, which is a big plus for me and why I'd not likely go on Rosie's boat, bless her.
"Average looking" gay friends have gone on RSVP and LOVED it. How many "average" women are advertising straight cruises...it's just advertising.

I don't care who they put on the poster--I guess I just feel odd being on a GAY cruise. Guess it's an internal thing--must be some form of closet-y-ness; when I think about it, sometimes being in the gay section of a bookstore makes me self-conscious--maybe that's it...plus I don't like being on parade, and that's IS why he wants to go--at least partly.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have said this: we were talking about my going back to the gym (which I recently did) and he says something like, "Now you're ready for the cruise" And it pissed me off for two reasons: 1) the implication that I don't look good now and that getting into shape is a prerequisite for attendance.

I wouldnt like that comment either, dogs...that would be a tough doghouse to bark out of.
I prefer a mixed crowd on vacation...I prefer as few kids as possible, too.

You know, I have a hard time hanging out in a gay club for more than a couple of hours, I can't imagine a week's worth. I've always resisted going.
That said, everyone I know who's been on one has been pleasantly surprised, one for the diversity of things you can do and varied groups of people, how it really doesn't matter what you look like and who you're with, how most people are there just to have a good time and most, not all, attitude is gone.
So now I'm just a little curious...

I guess I'm the lame-o who always thought a gay cruise would be fun -- if I wasn't paying for it, at least!.
I've been on enough straight cruises to want to see what a trip is like without the smell of Ben-Gay wafting from every passenger.

Lildog, I agree with you. I love vacations, and even a cruise, but I love being with close friends, sharing wine, stories, laughs, intimacy. I have never been one for HUGE parties with lots of new people around. Im not a bar or a club person either. I think you and your bf might consider compromise on a vacation that would work for both of you and offer you the best of both worlds. I definitely feel for you though, I know it is hard not feel like Scrooge when someone is offering something nice and you are unsure you want to go. Follow your heart.
I also know that when boys are left alone to their own devices things can get x-rated very quickly. Summers at PTown have shown me that. I am not faulting those who enjoy those things, it has just never proven enough for me.
