WOOHOO Melissa Etheridge!

I'm THRILLED she won! What a fantastic, classy speech.

Working at Disney World

Here's my experience: you could ask 10 people who've worked there and 9 out of the 10 people will say NEVER work there while the 1 person who LOVED it loved it so much and talked so highly about it that it almost erased the other 9 opinions altogether...

I've been a Disney fanatic since birth. There is nothing more I want to do than work at Disney World (i don't know if Disney Land has different conditions), but i keep hearing such unsatisfactory things about working there.. but i go there, watch the shows and parades, and can't help but desire to perform there more than ever. I told myself that when i turned 18 i was gonna audition.. and i've been 18 for 4 months now and have been constantly talked out of doing it everytime i decide i might go.

Honestly - is the experience, love of performing, and sheer magic of Disney enough to overpower the *alleged* terrible working conditions and meager pay...? Or was i misinformed..?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

re: Working at Disney World

If you love it, do it.

That's what I'm going to do, at least for their college program. It's only a year... why not have another experience? Isn't that what life is all about?

re: Working at Disney World

Yep, the moderator is sleeping on this one- let's get rid of the top posting please!
As for working at WDW, I know of a young mand who was quite literally plucked out of his forszt week at college to try out for the fradful "High School Musical" where he won the part of "Ryan". They shut down briefly to make the thing even bigger, and he STILL has the role and his Equity card, at 18!
Granted, it's a crappy show, but he always wanted to work at WDW and now he's living his dream, Although our family adores WDW, you coudn't PAY my daughter enough to be in that show, no matter what, but hey, it's a year and if you want it- go for it and have fun........

Yeah I'd do it just for the chance at the Equity card. VERY important little card for actors. re: Working at Disney World

re: Working at Disney World

definitely something i've always wanted to do also.
i say go for it. often times, you need to experience something for yourself before you make a decision about it. good luck!

my dream job is definitely to work at disney theatricals in the city.. *sigh.* <3
hear my song; it was made for the time when you don't know where to go, listen to the song that i sing, you'll be fine..

re: Working at Disney World

Just to let you all know. You might not get your Equity Card from this. Most of the shows are on a AGVA contract, but after a year with them you can pay the dues to be a member of the Equity Union. I know that the Aladdin Show in California Adventure in Disneyland is on this contract.

re: Working at Disney World

Also, an Equity card for a student is NOT necessarily a good thing as it really limits what you can do while you're in school(which is what has happened to some of the kids performing in High School Musical!!).

re: Working at Disney World

Yeah, I wouldn't be in it for the Equity card. I would probably turn it down anyway. There are so many more chances to get it later on. I wouldn't want to close so many doors so early on.

i just want to get to perform there. I don't know quite yet how it'll turn out, but i'm going to the audition in May. perhaps earlier if it works out. Does anyone know if they usually hire a lot of people for summer?

I think it depends what you at as to how happy you are. I would love to be in one of the shows...but who knows.
