World War III

world war iii#50

I don't understand the logic of our government...putting the fox in the hen house.

Well, I'm not an end of dayser myself, but I believe that some people who believe in that would actually like to hasten the apocalypse. Witness the disappoint of those when the rapture is announced and doesn't come.

And Pollyanna has two Ls. At least when Hayley Mills played her.

I edited mine, Kringas - goodness knows we wouldn't want to disrespect Ms. Mills.

"I do not recall many muslims denouncing 9/11 . As a matter of fact, I saw a lot of celebrating"

As a person who has Muslim friends and has studied Islam I find both this comment and the one below be DISGUSTING comments. Yes there was some celebrating, but that was from small groups in countries that didn't know the full scope of what happened. ALMOST every high-profile Arab who was interviewed about Sept. 11th said that what happened that day was horrible BOTH for the US, and for MUSLIMS. After Sept. 11th a HATRED for Muslims grew in this country, ALL BECAUSE OF WHAT SOME EXTREMISTS DID! My friend's mosque was TERRORIZED by CHRISTIANS, windows were destroyed, threats were spray painted on the walls, KORANS WERE BURNED. Every Muslim who has boarded an airplane since Sept. 11th has been stared at with both worried AND HATEFUL eyes, they have been screened JUST BECAUSE THEY WORE TURBANS, WHICH ARE PART OF THEIR RELIGION (just like a yamaca or the braids of some of the Jewish faith).

""To Muslims, anyone who is not a Muslim is an infidel"

Did you watch that Barbara Walter's special on ABC about Heaven. If not I highly recomend watching the portions with the two Muslims. One of them was a terrorist who was arrested before blowing himself up in Israel and the other is a holy man who is THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MUSLIM IN ALL OF NYC (and therefore the U.S.). The terrorist was asked if non-muslims were allowed in Heaven and he said no. He was not able to cite a verse in the Koran that said this. He also said that because he was a Martyr he would be presented with a multitude of virgins once he reached Heaven. He told Ms. Walters that his jihad buddies told him this. The holy man had the exact opposite reaction to these questions. He was able to cite multiple verses in the Koran that said that ALL people who believed in AND LOVED God would go to heaven. He also said that THERE WAS NO TRUTH IN THE VIRGIN MYTH. Interestingly, the MORMON (who is a CHRISTIAN) said that ALL NON CHRISTIANS, and Christians who were not 're-born' would never go to heaven. THIS CHRISTIAN HAD THE EXACT SAME RESPONSE AS THE MUSLIM TERRORIST.

Think twice before you spew out insults.

yeah, beacuse the thread was about nothing other than incoherent muslim bashing.

the most influential muslim in all of nyc (and therefore the u.s.)

technically incorrect. he's not even the most influential muslim in nyc. much less the country. omar abu namous' islamic cultural center has the largest muslim congregation in the city.

ahmad dewidar, an imam at the islamic society of mid-manhattan and a lecturer on islamic studies at manhattanville college, has met with president bush and other world dignitaries and been called "the face of the next generation of muslims in america."

course he did say in an interview on the muslim brotherhood's website that "the zionist community numbers only 3 million, but they control the government, the politics, the economy, and the media in the u.s."

i'd count cair's executive director nihad awad as more influential as well.

what about warith deen muhammad of the american society of muslms?

shaykh muhamad hisham kabbani, chairman islamic supreme council of america, maybe?

while mr. andul reif's views are hopeful, getting a lot of play on pbs and sitting with baba wawa doesn't make him the most influential anything.

Jacob, I agree with much of what you said, but also think you are guilty of overstating your cause.

There is a very vocal minority in the Muslim community who did in deed celebrate the damage done on 9/11 - and many more who condemned it. Unfortunately, those who condemend either did not get the air time, or did not speak with the emotion of those celebrating.

As someone who travels frequently, I also disagree with your statement that "every Muslim who has boarded an airplane since Sept. 11th has been stared at with both worried AND HATEFUL eyes, they have been screened JUST BECAUSE THEY WORE TURBANS, WHICH ARE PART OF THEIR RELIGION (just like a yamaca or the braids of some of the Jewish faith)."

I think this is an overstatement. If you are saying that there has been one person on a plane who is ignorant perhaps you are correct. But to generalize about the rest of us is not fair.

Has there been an increase in anti-Muslim rhetoric since 9/11? Yes. Was it generated by an act of violence perpetrated by an extremeist faction within the Muslim faith - Yes. Does Osama Bin Laden speak for all Muslims. No, Clearly not. But, His message is the loudest and clearest. Are we frightened here in the US and reacting (and over-reacting) based on fear. Yes. Has the Muslim community done enough to differentiate itself from the words and deeds of Bin Laden and his followers - in my opinion, no. Does that mean most Americans will generalize and assume that Bin Laden speaks for most Muslims (which he does not) - Yes.
