"Modern medicine is redefining old age and may soon allow people to live regularly beyond the current upper limit of 120 years, experts said on Wednesday."

Given the possibility, would you want to live to be 130? 140? 150? At what point would infirmities cause you to think, "I'm done here, time to move on." Interesting to ponder......

Does this make 60 the new 40?

If I was in good health, and had friends and interests, (and had put enough money away in my 401k!), then, yes... I'd love to live as long as I could.

If I was simply being kept alive, with questionable quality, then, no, the additional years would not be of value.

60 is the new 40. And 40 is the new 21. So this means the shift will make 90 the new 40 and 60 the new 21. Which means I'm not even born yet.

But I'd love to make it to 2100. I missed Halley's comet last time and want to have the eyesight to see it when it comes around again.

My great gran on my mom's side lived to 109, my grandmother lived to 100, and my mom is VERY healthy at 75. It's possible.

Calvin, I'm too old to do the math. It boogles what's left of my mind.

You bring up a good point, Addy. Retirement funds will be hard to stretch for that length of time. Unless, of course, we work into our 90s. Ugh.

SOMMS, I have a similar history. My great-grandfather was 106, and living an active life until he died. My grandmother passed away last year at the age of 100, and was also in active shape....

Ugh to working into our 90's.

We can pool our pennies and have a BWW retirement community where we all look after eachother... re: Would you want to live beyond 120 years?

SOMMS - something you should know: French and French Canadian women are very long-lived. All the women on both sides of my family have lived into their 90s, with some into their 100s. The men, not so much........

My great-great uncle died a few years ago at 106 or so. He was driving a car up to the age of 100, but his children made him stop. The rest of my family usually died in their 80s, but my dad is approaching 80 and seems to be in good health.

As for retirement funds, don't worry. We'll have social security to...HA! Sorry. I thought I could say that with a straight face.

You've got good genes, Calvin. Social what.....?

SOMMS - the women have a real good time once the men are gone so the extra 20 years are worth it!

I'm already being treated by the younger ones as if I have one foot in the grave, and I'm still in my mumbles. I don't think I want to live even up to 90. I probably won't anyway, since my family dies in their 80's.

When (and if) I make it to 50 next week, I'll start thinking bout the next 50 years.

If I am healthy why not? Can you imagine what life might be like 80 or 100 years from now? It boggles the mind.

I guess if I had all my faculties and wasn't a burden on anyone, I wouldn't mind, but honestly, for me, 95 to 100 years is plenty.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson

A wednesday matinee 2056. The 50th Anniversary Revival of 'Ring of Fire.' 100 year old me with the state of the art "hear everything" implant invented in 2022. Can't wait.

I'm only 14, and I want to die fairly young. Not in my 30s on anything, but in my 60s or 70s. At a happy age where I'm still somewhat healthy and not being treated like an old person about to die. My grandma lived to 93 and I knew that if I were her, I would've wished I'd died sooner.

MFL - you might just change your mind when you reach 50. Especially if medical advances delay the onset of age-related conditions. If you were healthy and in your prime, enjoying life at 70, why stop there?

I'm with mominator - can't wait to see what the rest of this century has to offer.

Justthefacts - rough night? Too much St. Paddy's Day celebration?
