But we were told it would be neck and neck by the get-everything-wrong pundits on TV. And Tom Brokaw had to apologize AGAIN for their idiocy.

"Also, it was not a given that she would win NY, NJ, and California."

Again, wasn't she heavily favored in all three for WEEKS? Obama's momentum kicked in what? A week ago? Not really enough time to overcome the huge leads she had.

Any Democrat will carry the Eastern states and California. But Obama's wins in massively white areas in traditionally Red states are indeed great for him. Plus, he's got a boatload of money, with the possibility of a great deal more coming in.

Oh...and it looks like he's won the delegates. Maybe.

Yes...she's held her own and very well. But last night was indeed huge for Obama.

So what?! He won the DEMOCRATIC primary in the RED states. These are the same states that he will lose in November to the Republicans. They are called red states for a reason! Sorry, but I dont see that as such a big accomplishment...

A Democratic canidate needs momentum in the closely contested states and the ones they can actually win, and last night proved one again the BLUE states want Clinton, which is what counts.

Sure support among the base matters, but
the "purple" states are the ones that matter the most.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Wait...you really think if the Eastern states and California don't get Clinton that somehow they'll be lost?

The point I was trying to make was that Obama is doing much better with white men than anyone thought he would.

"the BLUE states want Clinton, which is what counts."

So we're only going after the Blue States now? We're the only ones that count?

THAT'S a winning strategy.

Seriously,
the "big blues"
California, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois
If it is even close in those states the Democrat will not win.

But pretending like a win in our own party's primary in red states will somehow translate to an actual win there is...

Red states, like Alabama or Oklahoma no certainly not.
But toss up states like Iowa, New Mexico, Missouri, Florida, maybe Arizona, CERTAINLY because the candidate has demonstrated appeal in the state and had a large number of voters already come out for them, and they have an organization and people on the ground.

Don't forget about Kansas which swung Obama's way heavily and which boasts a highly popular two-term govenor Kathleen Sebelius who publicly endorsed Obama just before Super Tuesday. I don't think that endorsements in the US Congress matter that much but politics is local. That being the case, some of the endorsements picked up by select state governors pack a mean punch, especially in the general election where purple states will be in play.

I got $5 on KS, GA and VA flipping blue!

I reiterate, we need those 270 electoral votes by hook and crook and winning the same tired blue states that Gore-Lieberman & Kerry-Edwards claimed just want cut it. Plus, California's population is dipping for sundry reasons. The next census will be like WW3 in the US.

Would someone here explain to me why the Dems did not air a single broadcast ad in the state of NC when Edwards was on the ticket?

Mistakes have been made, said Ronald Reagan.

"But toss up states like Iowa, New Mexico, Missouri, Florida, maybe Arizona"

And even when looking at those states, Clinton is favored.

She had a big win over Obama in Florida, one of the crucial states in the past few elections, as well as in Arizona and they are in a dead heat in both Missouri and New Mexico. The only one of these states that Obama had a sizeable lead over Clinton was in Iowa, and Edwards was still in the race then, so how that state would vote without him there to spoil it is anyones guess.

But Florida, in the end, doesn't count all that much. Why? Because they have no seated delegates and people really didn't campaign much in Florida. She won Florida because she had no competition.

"And even when looking at those states, Clinton is favored."

But against whom? Is she favored over McCain in those states? Can she beat McCain is the question we should all be asking ourselves. Were it Romney or Huckabee, I'd have no concerns about her electability against either. But McCain is different. And so I think asking these questions is not only perfectly valid, but essential.

Do I think Obama can beat McCain? Yup. Do I think Hillary can? I'm not sure.

Midnight Radio, Hillary Clinton wasn't only expected to win MA, NJ, NY, CT, CA, ETC., she was expected to take it ALL. She was ahead by 20 points in the national polls two weeks ago. In MA, as RobbieJ pointed out, I believe she was ahead by 40 points before the recent Kennedy endorsement. She is a senator from NY, guaranteeing northeast popularity. She has the support of nearly the entire latino community and she still won CA by what, 10 percent? Remembering that a significant portion of ballots were cast in CA WEEKS ago. Obama built a whole lot of momentum in a very short time. Given as little as a few more days may have even tipped the scales more heavily in his favor.

All I know is that the day before Super Tuesday everyone was freaking out because of the Obama momentum. Nobody thought it was real. Clearly, it's real. We need to look at the vote count of Democratic ballots cast versus Republican ballots cast.

Obama's interrupting John McCain last night, his sly jabs--this guy could mop the floor with him. Obama will be the one the media cares about--he'll be the one the people care about.

You mean, like Al D'Amato was guaranteed popular?

Well then Giuliani. Certainly he did well in the great NYC area, right? He's widely loved and has bipartisan support. He's not hated and divisive like HRC.

Wait, what?

Huh? NY always votes blue, and NY loves Hillary Clinton (and she still didn't win by all that much). Giuliani had already dropped out. Not only are you speculating, you're speculating from a faulty starting point. If Giuliani had run a stronger campaign and stayed in it, he probably would've done pretty well.

Not only that but Giuliani has a crucial and irrevocable association with the "war on terror" which most Americans aren't feeling too hot about right now.

If Hillary Clinton had sat on her duff while Obama was working hard to catch the public's eye she would've lost NY too.

Missouri is just s close to Arkansas as it is to Illinois, didn't anyone notice that?

Notice when Clinton fans lose, they downplay the importance of Obama's win. We should know by now that even a one-vote victory is still a victory.

The Clintons have established political organizations all over this country--sleeper cells if you will--that they have re-activated once Hillary announced her candidacy. Of course she's going to do well all over the country. She's been the front-runner for years it seems.

The mere fact that Obama has been able to compete and in some cases, best her machine is amazing.

He may not be able to go the distance, but his performance against the Clinton machine has been surprising at the very least.
