Yeah yeah I know yet another cd thread. This one is slightly different though. Which cd/tape/8-track/record has recieved the most playing time in your stereo? Even if you had the record originally, now have the cd that still counts etc. For me it would have to be my A Tale of Two Cities cd. I am not sure any other cd has the opportunity to come close at this point, and I've only had it since November or December.
(It doesn't have to be a cast recording. Can be anything.) And share a little bit about why you love it too. (I know there are going to be a ton of newer Broadway shows listed here, but I am really interested in what many of the older board members have to say.)

SofaG, I LOVE YOUR ICON!
"oh little bruddah- he's got the heart of a champion!!"
For me....it would be Songs for A New World or Cabaret.

This is also a favorite because hey the words were writen by a bunch of excommunicated, drunken, Barvarian monks! How cool is that?

The "Some Kind of Wonderful" Soundtrack & the "Billboard Top Hits of 1983".
Followed closely by "Assassins" (Original), & "Once On This Island".

I would have to say that in theater terms there are two which I have (almost literally) worn out: The Last Five Years, and Blood Brothers (1995 London cast). The only reason I stopped listening to LFY was because when my boyfriend and I broke up it would send me into an awful torrent of tears just hearing the first two notes so I had to have someone hold the cd for me in order to get it away until I was over him. As for Blood Brothers, I have no idea- I just adore everything about it and only wish I had seen the Broadway version, or gotten to see it more than once when in London.
However, when it comes to "normal people music" the CD which I have used the most would probably have to be again, another tie, this time between Hanson's Middle of Nowhere and The Monkees Anthology.
Don't try and figure out where my musical taste came from, I have no idea.

Anything Goes
I have a very 'loved' 1962 cast recording.
It was the first tape I ever bought.
I have played and rewound so many times, that the tape has become warped.
During the most-played song, I Get a Kick out of You Eileen Rodgers' voice is warbled beyond recognition.
I've always gotten a little teary at that song, but the first time a hint of disfiguration was heard, I was sobbing.
I was inconsolable for several hours.
I just purchased the CD in February.
It sounds exactly like I remember it, and listening to it makes me feel like I'm in fourth grade again.
I can just tap dance in my room and sing along, and it feels like nothing is wrong with the world.

The Godspell 2000 Off-Broadway cast is one of my most listened ones. It's totally skipping all over the place.
So is my Rent one but just because I was obsessed with it for a week. Right now it's Avenue Q and a mix CD I made with about 6 full musicals (Assassins, Hairspray, Romeo Et Juliette, Parade, and more).

Posted: 8/9/04 at 6:22pmI have really wanted to get the 2000 Off-Broadway Godspell, I had a teacher who used to play it all the time when we were studying in class.

Posted: 8/9/04 at 6:41pmI had that in my hand to buy the other day but I only had enough on me for one CD so I ended up buying We Will Rock You because it was on sale for $17 (as opposed to the higher usual price for import CDs) but now I'm going to have to go back and get it.

I went through 2 copies of Rent, 2 copies of Chicago and 2 copies of Aida....
But from a record when I was little to CD now, I'd have to say "Free to Be You and Me"
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...

Jim Steinman's Tanz Der Vampire
It's so ADDICTIVE!!
And the more I hear it, the more I feel for the Americans. Michael Crawford spoilt what could've been a phenomenal show
