That is what "legal" means; pertaining to the law. Therefore, the law says if I am born of two US citizens I am a legal US citizen. "The first families who came across the Atlantic and took the land from the Native Americans" were NOT "illegal" immigrants because they were not breaking any immigration laws.
I think you are confusing "legal" with "moral". They are two different things you know.

Lets take a look at things that SHOULD be illegal, but aren't. Flame Throwers. Salvia. Tannerite. Improvised Weaponry. Thermite. Animal Cruelty. Teenage Marriage. Patriot Act. Labeling abortion providers in some states as "Justifiable Homicide." Indefinite Imprisonment. Torture.
