Your Favorite Knock-Off Brand Names

The Alvin and the Chipmunks thread inexplicably turned into a discussion of off-brand product names. I think some of them deserved their own thread.

My personal favorite is the Goldfish Cracker knock-off called Cheddar Whales. I've sometimes moisturized my face with a little Olay-like bottle called "Oil of Beauty."

What are your favorites?

Shaving Ryan's Privates.

That probably isn't what you're asking about, huh?

I LOVE Whales! They are ten times tastier than Goldfish.

My personal favorite is the soda called "Dr.Bob." My friends and I stood in the aisle at Wal-Mart for about fifteen minutes trying to figure out what kind of soda it was. We finally ended up buying a case just to see. I don't remember what it is now, though.

I laugh every time I hear the name.

It's a quarter? Here it's only ten cents for a cheapo knock off brand soda at Wal-Mart!

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

"Applause begets applause in the theatre, as laughter begets laughter and tears beget tears." CLAYTON HAMILTON, "Theory of the Theatre" "I think theater ought to be theatrical ... you know, shuffling the pack in different ways so that it's -- there's always some kind of ambush involved in the experience. You're being ambushed by an unexpected word, or by an elephant falling out of the cupboard, whatever it is." TOM STOPPARD

Phyllis - SHAVING RYAN'S PRIVATES is, although I don't agree with the practice.

Real one: I went to some flea market and out of all things bought what I thought were Sharpie permanent markers. When you look closer at the label, it says "Shonpie."

I see so many knock off names in those Pixar animation-type movies, such as Bee Movie and Finding Nemo, and I love it. I just can't think of any right now.

This is a Matt Groening obsession also. You see them turn up in Simpson's espisodes- recently, Bart threw out a bunch of games, including Ravenous Ravenous Rhinos, Duopoly and Parchoosey.

Damn, only a dime? I'm being robbed! Y'know, I seem to remember the Sam's Choice sodas (which I also love) being a dime until we upgraded to a Super Wal-Mart. Maybe that's it.

In response to the threadjack: AP! I miss you too! I'm calling you this weekend.

I can't talk now. I gotta go get my wallet out of the toaster.

A women in New Mexico actually made a brand of jeans for plus size women called Lardache. Updated On: 12/7/07 at 05:46 PM

Have you all been to Target recently?

Not quite what we're talking about--but sort of along the same lines...

They have a Target brand product that imitates every mouthwash product that Target carries! Seriously! Go into the dental hygeine aisle of Target and look. It's quite amusing, actually.
