Posted: 8/26/06 at 1:46amHeh, I was just going to make my big "How the Beast's transformation touched my soul" speech, but it looks like DG's got it covered.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 1:50amBeauty and the Beast has so many great moments. But I still can't decide between that and Lady and the Tramp as my all-time favorite.

Oooh, memories...
The ballroom scene in Beauty and the Beast is just classic. The Beast's facial expressions are so cute, especially when Belle lays her head on his chest.
"Part of Your World (Reprise)" from The Little Mermaid is also amazing. When that wave crashes behind Ariel...ooo...gives me the chills every time.
The song "Hellfire" from the Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of the darkest Disney scenes and executed beautifully. As a kid, I didn't really understand what was happening with Frollo, but now it's obvious.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 8:45amI never cared for Beauty and the Beast. I don't know why, it was just never my favorite Disney movie. I thought it was overratedd. Same with Pinocchio. I always thought it was kind of dull and weird. And a bit too creepy for children.

I have to say, I liked the beast more as the beast than as a man. I almost wished he didn't change back. I guess the fact that it was Disney-fied so the beast wasn't so scary played into that, but as a kid, I LOVED the transformation until I saw what he was transforming into.
And I left Hellfire off my list -- BRILLIANT moment, though probably the least "kid-friendly" in any Disney animated movie.

Jason, on the BATB special edition commentary, they acknowledged that many people felt that way. The audience fell in love with this character and all of a sudden you're looking at someone who seems like a stranger. And they admitted maybe they could have made him look a tad more similar to his Beast-self.
Not too original, but I also have to go with Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid. One of my favorite all-time songs. I used to start the video from that point and rewind it a couple of times.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 2:07pmI have that edition of the movie but don't think I ever listened to the commentary track - interesting. And seriously, since it's about the only flaw in an otherwise perfect movie (it so should have won the Oscar that year), I can forgive it.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 2:34pmI'm sure it finished 2nd to Silence of the Lambs. I always said Beauty should have won, but then I finally saw Silence, and it is a really great film. Maybe there should have been a tie.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 2:51pmI feel the same way about the Beast-Prince. I always thought he was kind of funny-looking in human form. It's like, this isn't the character we fell in love with! On the commentary one of the directors said something like "Bring back our bison!"

Posted: 8/26/06 at 4:56pmSilence WAS a great film, no question, and deserved the other awards it received - but BatB, I feel, was the better overall film. Of course it's entirely subjective, and the fact that it's the only nominated animated film before or since says something about it's quality in and of itself.

I actually really liked the Beast-Prince design, but I thought it was strangely animated in the final ballroom scene. I always thought his hair was pretty.

You probably thought that Atrias, because the final ballroom scene was done over the final Sleeping Beauty ballroom dance scene.
I know way too much Disney trivia...

Posted: 8/26/06 at 5:21pmHeh, don't worry, I've listened to that commentary waaaay too many times myself. I just don't like the way they drew his face.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 5:34pmWhen they released the 10th anniversary soundtrack, they put a few demos and alternate cuts on as bonus tracks. The oroginal music to accompany the transformation was there, and I am so glad they changed it. Has anyone heard it? I thought it was a little too maudlin for the scene. I LOVE the score they used in the film. It was triumphant and magical and...*squee!*

Posted: 8/27/06 at 12:28amOn the special edition DVD of BATB can you only watch the film with the "Human Again" song added in or is it just the original theaterical movie?
#45re: Your Favorite Scene From a Disney Movie
Posted: 8/27/06 at 1:26amYou can watch either version, plus the "work in progress" version they showed at (I think) the New York Film Festival.

You know, Disney's come out with Lion King and Aladdin and other of these huge special edition DVDs, but...well I never saw the Snow White DVD, I hear that might be the only competitor...Beauty and the Beast I think is the best DVD Disney's come out with. So many amazing features. I mean I loved the Lion King and Aladdin I especially liked that interview-panel thingie they did, but Beast takes the cake.
Now the Little Mermaid special edition DVD was supposed to come out a year after Aladdin. What's taking so long?!?!

#48re: Your Favorite Scene From a Disney Movie
Posted: 8/27/06 at 1:59amI'm skeptical. It was due out last October and the October before that...
#49re: Your Favorite Scene From a Disney Movie
Posted: 8/27/06 at 2:02amI think it's for real this time. It's been advertised on recent DVDs. It was the first trailer on Lady and the Tramp.
