There was a woman with a few kids around her and what felt like tons of boxes and bags and she could see where she was going. One of the bags bumped into my shin and she stepped on my foot. When I swore out of impulse she yelled at me about how that kind of language is not one that someone should use around kids.

I guess it's still my favorite.
(Gorgeous pix, Jane, as usual.)

The Christmas Tree at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
My absolute favorite!
I love walking by the curbside stands selling Christmas trees. The fragrance of the pine just captures my heart.
I ADORE NYC during the holidays. The crowds don't bother me at all (hope they're all spending $!).

I also love the Origami tree at the Museum of Natural History.
So magnificent!

Posted: 11/23/09 at 3:27pmthanks Reg. I had a great time last year walking around 5th ave and seeing the lights, store windows, etc. I want to do it again this year.

...and the tree at Lincoln Center!
Every year I take a day with a friend to do a 'tree tour'. We see all of the trees I've posted, the Rockefeller Center tree and as many others as we can think of!

Catch a performance of the Messiah!
Also, take a stroll through Central Park. (Bonus if there is snow), and be sure to see the Dairy. It's always so pretty with decorations!

What block is that magnificent tree at Lincoln Center? I saw one through a window inside one of the buildings, but I did not see the outdoor one, and now feel I must.
I need to keep note of this thread of places to see that I have not seen yet.

"I ADORE NYC during the holidays. The crowds don't bother me at all (hope they're all spending $!)."
EXACTLY my thoughts!
And the trick for Roc Center is to go early in the day, before the tourists have gotten out of their hotels. Or, if you're not Christian, go on Christmas itself!

Last year I did a lot of store window shooting:

I did similar. I just love walking and looking around at the different sites. I don't even have to buy anything to just look.
Oh, and if you go to Macy's and don't want to wait on the long line for Santa, you can go through one just to see what everything looks like and him through a window. I got a little botton from going through, and there is virtually no line for that.

I pass by the Bergdorf Goodman windows on my bus every day and they are stunning. Love looking as we go by.
I also love just going into the Time Warner center and watching the stars change colors in time to the Christmas music.

JG and Winston, I was on a flight recently, sitting in front of a family with five kids. The kids sang "Jesus Loves Me" when they weren't yelling at the top of their lungs. One of them kicked my seat for 4 hours.
Parents don't parent, it seems. Or they parent everyone else but their own kids by correcting other people's language or whatever.
NYC wears Xmas very well. Fifth Avenue does boast a lot of amazing window art--it's festive, but often a bit dark, which is kind of interesting. It's not relentlessly saccharine.
Jane, cool photos. What is on top of the building? A model Santa?

Jane, I love the Sabrett photo! Funny but I find that very Christmasy. Sabrett carts and roasted chestnut carts (even though I despise the taste and smell of them) screams NYC Christmas to me.

Posted: 11/24/09 at 5:08pmthanks, SNAFU. I also love that photo. To me, it's a quintessential New York scene, no matter what the season. But yes, I think it looks kind of Christmasy too!
