I suffer from migraines, and am sadly familiar with 'auras'. But, because I get an aura I'm able to take medication to diminish the strength of the migraine. Otherwise they are completely debilitating.

I had a terrible bout with them earlier this year and was also worked up to rule out something more serious...

Fortunately I've been able to monitor the things which 'trigger' the onset of a migraine, and have been relatively free of them recently.

If you think you are having migraines you should seek medical attention.

"I'd also reccommend the Excedrine Migraine, which has extra caffiene. And if you can't find any of that, I usually drink a ton of Coke!"

It can make it better but sometimes caffiene can trigger a migraine headache or make it worse. That is true for any kind of headache actually.

"I've figured out that one of my biggest triggers is artificial sweetner"

That is the same for me.

I'll never forget this. I was at my aunt/uncle's house like 10+ years ago and I asked my cousin for a piece of gum. She gave me a piece and I began to chew it. Before I knew it, my head was pounding, I was throwing up, and everything was bad. I wanted to lay on a cold floor but 2 seconds later I didn't, I wanted my mom to rub my head but 2 seconds later I didn't...
It had been the artificial sweetener in the gum.

These days, I don't seem to be so bothered by it but if I have a little bit more than my body will accept, I'm in trouble...

Orion -
For years I was told that mine were sinus headaches. I was given every kind of OTC sinus drug as well as every kind of prescription antibiotic and pain killer made. Absolutely nothing helped. After suffering with one of these for over a week, I took an Imitrex tablet and the "sinus" pain immediately disappeared and didn't come back. There was recently a study reported on in the Times that said that MOST recurrent 'sinus' headaches are actually MIGRAINES and should be treated as such.

The scientists who invented Imitrex deserve the Nobel prize for Chemisty, Medicine, hell, Peace come to that!

Cold over the site helps some people, w me heat works better. Generally migraines are unilateral w some exceptions ( like cluster)I usta get blurred vision in my R eye decreased strength of grips and even would limp. My that point tho I was usually in a dark rm w the heating pad and tylenol # 3. Imitres literally helped me live a normal life again.
I usually take the pills but keep the spray for "emergencys" like when there is no water around or I'm otherwise sick. I've had recurring migrains the last 3 days too and can only figure its something to do w the weather.

U don't have to stick w Imitrex tho there are other brands avail. Good luck Papa

I'll give a shout out for Imitrex, but not the nasal spray version. The tablet worked wonders for me. I was also amazed that the over the counter Excedrine Migraine actually worked for me. I hope these work for papa.

I just had a terrible migraine after moving to a new house recently, and had to stop everything and lie down with 4 excedrine migraine tablets until it passed. They can be quite debilitating, and very inconvenient.

Mamie,

For me, I can tell the difference. The sinus headaches I get are painful but don't create the problems with my eyesight that migraines do. Imitrex will help a migraine but does little to relieve a sinus headache. So, for sinus headaches, I have to use Excedrine and a decongestant. For the migraines, I have to use Imitrex. If the Imitrex releived your headaches, that proves they were migraines as opposed to sinus headaches.

My migraine triggers are sugar, chocolate and certain food additives like msg.

My trigger is sunshine. I can't go to a street fair, a picnic, or the beach without ending up with a migraine.

Ande yes....I do keep hydrated.
