audition

Hey, guys! Sorry but I need help with an audition. I'm planning to audition for "Beauty in the Beast" and I would really like to get a good role but I'm not quite sure what to sing. My lower range is better than my higher one but I can sing both soprano and alto. I'm considering "For Good" from Wicked or "Day by Day" from Godspell but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

re: audition

i would REALLY stay away from singing anything from wicked. anything.

"day by day" doesn't really fit BATB stylistically.

is this for a high school production?? if so, you might do well to try out for mrs. potts. if it's a community production i doubt they'll have someone as young as you play an "older" role.

i'm not very well versed in picking out low-range songs, since i'm a soprano..but i would recommend trying to find a ballad that seems to fit the "disney" style. i would say use "for good" as a last resort since a bunch of other girls are probably considering singing stuff from wicked.

if i come up with a more specific suggestion i'll let you know.

re: audition

Thanks! I'm not sure what age they want for Belle but I'll be sixteen around the time. It's not a school production. It's a theatre company in a city near where I live. I'm hoping for either Belle, the feather duster, or one of the three girls that swoon over Gaston. I've been working on "Home" from BATB as a possible option for an audtion song.

re: audition

Try to avoid auditioning songs from the show you are auditioning for.

Maybe try singing
Sixteen Going on Seventeen-Sound of Music
My Favorite Things-Sound of Music
I Enjoy Being a Girl-Flower Drum Song
I'm a Brass Band-Sweet Charity
On My Own-Les Mis
Happily Ever After-Once Upon a Mattress.

Some of those may be overused though. Avoid Wicked. It's being done to death.

re: audition

Not Beauty and the Beast all the time. Just don't audition with songs from the show you are auditioning for. It makes you look like you have a big ego.

re: audition

some of Dictinary's songs are great, Rogers and Hammerstines will deffinatly give you a good song, why not something from Cinderella if you can sing soprano?
Fear no more the heat o' the sun, Nor the furious winter's rages; Thou thy worldly task hast done, Home art gone and ta'en thy wages: Golden lads and girls all must, As chimney-sweepers, come to dust. ~Cymbeline

I didn't even think about Cinderella. Thanks for the suggestion!

re: audition

Cinderella would be good. Especially "In My Own Little Corner" Because Belle is kind of in her own corner with her books and stuff. Yeah.

re: audition

I used to sing "Part of Your World" all the time. That would be a good audition song. Thanks!
