She gives 100% in every single film. I was always partial to ABOVE SUSPICION, because she and MacMurray are so natural, in an era where movie stars were so affected. I love QUEEN BEE and STRAIT JACKET, and many others.
Joanie gave 100% in life too--no matter what she might have done to her kids, she was always responsive to her fans and always looked like a movie star. I'll have to check out Above Suspicion....gotta hit netflix now!

September 23, 1974, was Joan's final public appearance, in an event at NYC's Rainbow Room to honor Rosalind Russell. After seeing unflattering press photos of herself published the next day, she was horrified, saying "If that's how I look, they won't see me again." And the public didn't.
this is how her biography on imdb.com ends:
Horrified by a photo taken of her in 1974, she retired completely, devoting herself to Christian Science and increasing use of vodka. Her four adopted children received little from her $2-million estate: $77,500 each for Cathy and Cindy, nothing for Christopher or Christina Crawford "for reasons best known to them."
(joan died on may 10, 1977 from pancreatic cancer.)
Not exactly "...and they lived happily ever after" here.
Why do I get the feeling that if Christina HAD gotten some big bucks, she would have never written MD? Of course, she made alot more from that book than Joan could have ever left her in the will.
Oh! That unfortunate photo! That's why we never saw Dietrich or Garbo...Of course, Joan's got her falsies on...I think Bette said once during WHTBJ that Blanche/Joan is supposed to be dying and her tits keep getting bigger--"They look like the Hollywood Hills!"
