Y, I make one exception for Walmart - on the beach in North Carolina, otherwise - NEVER.
Well, I guess I will let you go with a warning. This time.

Well, I will try this summer to see if I can shop elsewhere.
Well now, I'm really pathetic re: costco. As you know, we have none in Manhattan. Every summer, when I go down the Jersey shore on weekends, guess what the one activity I look forward to the most is-yep, going to Costco! I buy tons of stuff, and bring it home by train to NY little by little all during the summer. oy.
we have a sams club, bj's (*giggle* i said bj), and price chopper... price chopper is fairly new.

Jane, Costco has excellent meat. Also, some great prices on wine and booze, but that place stresses me out greatly. It is so big, the lines . . .
Saturday or Sunday mornings are when I go.
Great prices on wine, as brd said. Some weekends they have the wine purchaser on site and he will ID the best values. And believe it or not, when I make cookies, the best price in town for butter.
Last time I was there I got a spare propane tank for my BBQ (without the propane!).
I can rarely get out of there without spending a few hundred dollars.
I have not been in almost two weeks. I need my Costco fix soon. Trader Joe's it right down the street. I need a cart to haul everything out of my car after I go!
Jane, you will have to tell me where you head in NJ, since I live at the shore. I have a Blazer. Maybe I can save you some annoying trips by train. lol
brd-yes they do have great meat! Actually all their food items are very very good. their pizza (my fav) is one of the best I've had-seriously! their prepared foods like lasagne are superb! I'm in heaven when I walk in there. and sometimes I even like the free samples of food they're giving out! haha, I just remembered I auditioned for their commercial too! I don't audition any more though.

I like my board's head black forest turkey...
And I like my bulk size bags of gummy bears and swedish fish from costco. :)
Well there's a costco like right off the bridge in Astoria...not my personal fave...not such a bad drive from the city. It's sad that I have a favorite costo. And costco owns BJ's tenfold. :)

Man, between Trader Joe's and Costco, I am in heaven. My closest Trader Joe's is an hour away. Completely worth the drive every two weeks, though. I like the Comodynes Facial Cleanser wipes. And most of the food.

Our Trader Joe's is only about ten minutes away. TJ is great, but three buck Chuck is horse pee.
We just got a Trader Joes on 14 th st. so far, it's a nightmare. the store is small and there's a line to go in. Once you get it, you can't shop because you can't get near the food through the crowds. I'm avoiding it until it's no longer a novelty, if that ever happens. For the time being, I'll stick with Whole Foods.

Whole foods is so expensive! But, then I assume Jane that you are not providing for five people!
TJ's French Berry Lomonade is soooo good. I also love the Nothin' But Bananas, Flattened. I like finding weird quirky stuff there.

Is it odd that I've never even seen a Costco's- let alone been in one?
I've been in Sam's club- a long, long time ago. My family no longer belongs there so we go to BJ's now.

"...you are not providing for five people!"
brdlwyr- I thought you just had 2 girls? Don't you talk about how they have bad hair days or something??
Where did this 3rd person come in?
brd-I know whole foods isn't cheap, but I don't do the bulk of my shopping there. Only once in a while, I'll drop in and get a few special things. that's it.
No, I'm not providing for 5! Well, seeing how fat fat fat I am, maybe I am!
I am not a big fan of Whole foods, perhaps because it is a wee bit expensive.
I grew up going to Trader Joe's.
Love the cheese, nuts, prepared food . . . Their fresh pasta is also great. I like their lean ground beef as well. Damn, I just love Trader Joe's.
I guess I am spoiled, I have Trader Joe's all around, and Costco as well.
Just watch out getting the food samples at Costco - man, people are like crazy hungry animals if you go near mealtime!

SQT - C7 is a Rent head, but his favorite show is Les Miz. He is not a problem, so I guess he does not get the thread time!
Y, everything you say is true here.
Has anyone had the New Zealand beef from TJ? It is grass fed and tastes much different from the corned fed beef here.
weird, I've lived in mid-state ny for 24 years, near woodstock, and I dont think I've ever had anything BUT boars head
Sounds like (Costco) K Mart. That sort of thing with membership privilages.
A little bit different than K-Mart. It sells a lot of stuff in bulk, and then has some really high end items. It also has great prices on books/DVDs CDs and Computer Software. You do not have a huge choice, but the prices are good as is the quality. There is apparently very little markup on the items, so they make money on the quantity of sales. There are no weekly sales, but sometimes they do have coupons where you can get some amazing deals.
Some of the food items it sells are in large quantities. Butter is sold in 4 pound packs. Milk to two gallon sets . . .
I never really shopped at K-Mart (we had Fedco when I was a kid, and then Target) but I don't shop for the same things at Costco that I would at Sears or K-Mart.
