I know!!! My English teacher just did an entire class on them. She said the best thing to do is just be personal, and don't worry about using big words.


Which is a good thing...because I am HORRID at finding good words to use. I'm always right clicking on the synonyms button on Microsoft Word. hahah

Whatev. At least you can use the same one for like, every college.

just for you incase you didn't know, most colleges have different prompts for their essays. So you probably will not be able to use the same essay for all colleges.

Most of my schools are common app, or at least topic of your choice, even if the school has its own app, except uchicago...where on the cartesian plane do you lie? heh. that essay is actually the easiest

College essays are evil. So evil, I put mine off until 10p.m. the night it was due, and submitted it at 11:59. Hey! I was accepted! I'm not sure I would recommend that procedure, though. Get it over ASAP. And then don't sweat about it. I really think guidance counselors, parents, and teachers TRY to make the college app process much more stressful for the student than it needs to be...

Yes there is the Common App. but when I applied for colleges, all the schools I applied for had different prompts. Except for the Cal States and UCs. I guess it just depends on what school you apply for.

So I would just like to add that I absolutely HATE online applications that fool you so mercilessly. You work so hard on 20 short answer questions and turn in the first section and suddenly here is another section requiring a long essay.

I thought that auditioning for a vocal performance program would be slightly more musical than writing oriented...

Just wait to you get to writing ACTUAL college papers.... now that is something that I HATE. lol
