vile haters feel the bitter touch of their vitriol splashing back upon them after their vicious attack on minorities during the national celebration of violent territorial acquisition exercises by preternaturally aggressive males.
oops, they did it again

It seems that the Mars Company has responded. John in DC wrote: "Masterfoods, Mars and Snickers parent company (or something), called to let me know that while humor is highly subjective, and their target market for the ads did give them positive feedback (that would be the neanderthal gay-bashing fans of Snickers?), they did not intend to offend anyone and will not be airing any of the four ads ever again, nor will they be airing the commentary from the NFL players responding to the ads. This includes not airing the ads during the Daytona 500, which they had earlier said they planned to do.
I'm still waiting for them to email their official statement, but this is good. They recognized their mistake, well, at least implicitly, and have done the right thing. Still, Snickers just told millions of Americans that being gay is bad and then associated anti-gay prejudice with violence, so it would still be nice if Snickers could find a way to correct the intolerant message they sent to millions of Americans."
Still, this is inexcusable. Could one of you remind us homos when the Daytona Race thingy is on so we can make sure they keep their promise?

I'm glad I clicked on the link to figure it out, because I had no idea what the hell you just said, papa.
I didn't watch (or give a sh*t) about the Super Bowl, but these ads are pretty disgusting. The Mars company is getting exactly what it deserves if there's a big backlash against them now. They ought to be ashamed.

Posted: 2/6/07 at 9:38amThanks, papa. And I agree with B12, I almost didn't read this thread until I saw who posted it. (I can't resist you, papa). You might consider changing the title to make it a bit more, umm, descriptive? Perhaps just adding the word "homophobic" before "mars". More people would read it, I think.

What's so homophobic about hitting gays with tire irons or pouring battery acid down their throats?
Jeez, you queers are so SENSITIVE!

Posted: 2/6/07 at 10:10amjust to play devil's advocate here for a sec (and i'm not condoning these horrific ads), don't they show in rather vivid terms the sheer and unadulterated stupidity of homophobes?

No. Not to the stupid homophobes.
The commercials dehumanize gays by portraying being gay as something disgusting.
It's the same homophobic technique employed by the Republican Party, the Catholic Church, Orthodox Jews and Fundamentalist Islam.

This ad is just weird. A local conservative columnist here condemned the ads yesterday because they promoted the Homosexual agenda. I guess she thought that Snickers really cause you to kiss another man.
I watch the ads and wonder who they thought would like them. Obviously, the target market (Homophobic sports fans) don't want to see two men kissing and gays don't want to see these ads at all, so I guess the only people watching them are the celibates?

'don't they show in rather vivid terms the sheer and unadulterated stupidity of homophobes?'
When I first saw the commercial with them pulling out their chest hair, I thought it was kind of ironically funny. But progressing through those other commercials where more insidious violence is portrayed, it made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable. What instilled pure rage in me was watching the football players disgust at the men kissing. If that wasn't the EXACT reaction Mars was looking for, why put it on their site?
