re: everyone join in! for the singers

I've been compared to Sutton Foster before but I've been straying away from that style of music, and going more towards the sounds of Kelli O'Hara and Laura Benanti.

Jenn Gambetese, although she is 34534534534x's better than I am, haha.
And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

re: everyone join in! for the singers

My Broadway voice is semi-similar to Bernadette Peters, I'm not saying I'm anything like her. But I'm a higher soprano so my lower range sounds different? I don't know if you get what I'm trying to say. But I have a big brassy voice ala Stephanie J. Block.

But my true Operatic voice sounds like I don't know a young Anna Netrebko. We both have the dark voice and a similar vibrato.

When I'm singing classical I'd have to say a cross between J Mark McVey, Robert Cuccioli and Brian Stokes Mitchell, contemporary is more like ....I dunno, Mandy Patinkin? I have no idea. I'll ask someone who's heard me a lot.

re: everyone join in! for the singers

Well I would say Jodi Benson and Sutton Foster, I have a very Disney sound.

When I sing I imediately get comments of "Wow she sounds like belle!" or "The little mermaid"

It of course all depends on the style I am singing.

re: everyone join in! for the singers

I have been told by a judge I have a Josh Groban feel to my voice with more depth and presence. I was singing musical theatre, but when I sing classical I sound slightly different. Same with Jazz.

re: everyone join in! for the singers

Well, everyone tells me that I sound like Kristin Chenoweth, and once I was singing "Astonishing" and I didn't realize my neighboors were listening and they came by and said "Wow, I thought that that was the recording of Sutton" but I know have I have a lot of work before I sound as great as they do. I have also been told that my voice is perfect for the part of Belle and Christine.

Lea Salonga and Idina Menzel are two who I've been compared to the most. I am definitely NOWHERE near where they are vocally, but I guess they are who I sound similar to.

re: everyone join in! for the singers

well, i've been compared to Sherie Rene Scott (when i sing bway), Kirstin Chenoweth (when i sing opera) and Idina Menzel (when i sing around the house), all three are my idols....

re: everyone join in! for the singers

Truth be told, I've never tried to compare myself to someone. I'd definitely be interested if someone would compare for me(I'm just curious to what people will say). My Javert's Suicide can be found here. Whenever I sing it, I go into a voice somewhere between Broadway and Classical(80% Broadway, 20% Classical).

re: everyone join in! for the singers

I've never been really compared to anyone, but during track season, we all sing Disney songs together (those are the only songs everyone knows) and I lead. Whenever we sing A Whole New World, they tell me I sound just like Jasmine. I have the same range as Sherie Rene Scott (one of my idols) but I couldn't tell you if I sound like her, but I just love singing My Strongest Suit really loud, or Every Story is a Love Story, or all of L5Y.

re: everyone join in! for the singers

i sang wishing you were somehow here again for an audition once and the director told me i could be a young emmy rossum... but alas, i didn't get into the show so he could have been lying... or maybe he doesn't like emmy rossum re: everyone join in! for the singers

i do believe i sound a bit like her singing that song though.

re: everyone join in! for the singers

I kinda have a dark soprano thing going on so I'd say I'm probably closest to Laura Benanti but thats just my comparison. I hate hearing myself.

re: everyone join in! for the singers

I'm mainly compared to Sherie Rene Scott. But I'm often compared to Kristin Chenoweth, and occasionally Idina Menzel or Kerry Butler. So it probably depends on what I'm singing and who's doing the comparing.

re: everyone join in! for the singers

i've been said to sound like adam pascal but then I think I have a little more of a classical sound rather than broadway rockish sound but hey I guess it's good to be well rounded with both.

note- I will never be as good as adam...just amazing...just thought I'd add that

re: everyone join in! for the singers

personally I have a sound all my own, but I can imitate other singers. Usually when I sing opera or in my colortura I don't get any comparisons, neither in my mix voice. But in my belt when I'm belting my best friend once said, "God when you belt like that, you sound just like Linda Eder". I don't like comparing myself, because I'm defintly NOT like anyone. If you look at my Bernadette quote you can see why it's important to me to be diffrent.
