The favorite dance movie list has so many fabulous movies/dancers. What are your favorite dance numbers form a movie or Broadway show?
One of mine is the Classic Gene Kelly- Singing in the Rain

The Nicholas Brothers' eye-popping final dance sequence from "Stormy Weather" is, without a doubt, the single greatest dance number I've ever seen.

The barn raising in 7 Brides, perhaps.
mine's singing in the rain too, but from a clockwork orange.
That's just wrong, papa.
We just watched Singin' In The Rain in my American Film Studies class and that dance sequence was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the thread title. I thought it was fantastic.
fred astaire's routine to one for my baby in the sky's the limit.
The Pompei Club scene from the Sweet Charity movie.
First scene in my head was the barn raising dance in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
Fred Astaire dancing on the ceiling in Royal Wedding.
"America" in West Side Story, and the Mambo.
My all time favorite dance scene in a film-without a doubt-
The scene in FAME when Gene Anthony Ray stole the show from the girl who was auditioning.
I do love that number in Royal Wedding.
my choice is prob Tango de Roxanne from Moulin Rouge.
Heh, we watched that scene from Royal Wedding too. It was nifty. We had to write an essay on how we thought it was done, though, which was not quite so nifty.
Shall we Dance from The King and I
I have many, but this is certainly one of them -

My all time favorite from " Swing Time " Fred and Ginger together doing
" Never Gonna Dance " circa 1936----- WOW!
So many of the above - Pompei Club, All of Fred and Ginger + Judy and Fred's audition for Ziefeld in 'Easter Parade'and 'The Portland Fancy' from "Summer Stock" Add the gala in "The Turning Pointe" and the 'Little Mermaid Ballet' from "Hans Christian Andersen".
PS - Sorry, I have to add Fred and Rita Hayworth - every dance number in YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER.
Most of these are obvious, but still close to my heart:
-Judy Garland doing "Get Happy" from SUMMER STOCK
-"The Dance at the Gym" from WEST SIDE STORY
-"Consider Yourself," "Who Will Buy," and "Oom Pah Pah" from OLIVER!
-"Mein Herr" from CABARET
-"Step in Time" from MARY POPPINS
-"Shall We Dance," "...Uncle Thomas", "March of Siamese Children" from THE KING AND I
"Shipoopi," "76 Trombones," and "Marian the Librarian" from THE MUSIC MAN
and more recently...
"You Can't Stop the Beat" from HAIRSPRAY. Every time I see John Travolta's segment, I die laughing.
Speaking of Fred and Rita, one of my favorites. Even with Fred dancing, just try to take your eyes off Rita!

Two more that I love. Mostly because of the talent of the stars performing them.

Oh! I must not leave this out!
I only discovered this number (from the 1943 B-picture CAROLINA BLUES starring Kay Kaiser and his band) this past spring. Introduced and concluded by Ann Miller, it features Harold Nicholas solo (I think Fayard was in the army). Excepting Annie's too-few numbers and this electrifying number, the film is unwatchably awful.

Agree with whoever mentioned the 2 scenes from West Side Story, and Kiss Me Kate.
Gregory Hines in Tap. Link is below. You have to wade through a lot of stuff to get to the part that I love, with Gregory and 3 other guys dancing on the sidewalk. That segment is only about 15 seconds. Everytime I see that, I feel cheated, I want more.
