I found my personal information on this database. Along with maps to my home, and an aerial view.

Subject: Personal Information with DOB, address and Phone Number

Beginning this month (May '05) a new database became available to the general public, free of charge, that displays your personal information (names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates).

The database is found at www.zabasearch.com.

I urge you to forward this email to family and friends. Check to see if your name and information is in their database. If so and you want it removed, send them an e-mail at info@zabasearch.com to request it be removed.

After opting out by email, check back after a few days to make certain your information has been removed.

Displaying such information should be a crime.

Unfortunately, there are many sites on the web that contain an individual's personal information. Some of these sites even sell information about a person.

also, if you have AOL, make sure you're not listed in their people search directory... not only does that give you the person's home address, home phone, and backround check, but also gives you a map to their house.

You're right about it being legal, but that doesn't make it right.

What's so creepy about it? Good lord, people are paranoid! I read somewhere there there is A BOOK out there where they list everyone's Name Address and PHONE NUMBER! And it's published every year and a big truck comes by and leaves a copy on everyone's door step! It's called a PHONE BOOK.

Do folks just sit around and look for things to worry about?

Good Lord, I put in my mother's name and every house she lived in since she was a child came up.

How can they sell "background material" on people?

This makes my skin crawl.

Theatrediva, That same thing happened to me. Old, old addresses and phone numbers turned up,as well as, current ones. Scary.

By the way, that school you'll be attending sounds great!

By the way, Namo, on the up side...now we can just have the party at Corine's place!

Joe, I pretty much agree with you. Yes, we may each (or each residence at least) get a copy of our local phone directory ... and yes, if anyone's listed publicly in any phone book, that info can be obtained from information. I guess the diff. is that the internet makes all this info so readily accessible, it's like receiving every phone book in America at your doorstep instead of just your local one.

I think the only real way to get and stay off of these people search sites is to just have an unlisted number, period. Otherwise, even if you request removal now, next time a new phone book comes out, I think they can relist it.

No huge deal for me. It's not so much scary as just another thing to get used to in the modern age. If I'm found, I'm found! lol

P.S. Now the background check stuff is kinda scary. Seems only people like law enforcement and potential employees ... people like that should be able to pay for and access that. Maybe I'm not seeing something here I should see as to why every Tom, Dick and Jane should be able to do this ... my initial reaction is that this is a bit much. I'm so boring if anyone paid to check my background they'd demand their money back. :) Updated On: 6/15/05 at 11:49 AM

Well, I'm not there.

BUT - my mom is. And my dad is, as three different labels. Two, wrong addresses but right phone number. The third his his name, and his middle initial is the first letter of my mom's name - and that's the right address.

I'm there.... under an old address. Big deal. It's like an online phone book. It's all public information.

The lack of privacy is staggering that most people don't even realize it. You can call any automated airline and say someone's last name and get all their flight information (as the paparnazi's do), lists like this are basically people who order from catalogs or magazine subscriptions and put their full name down. Most information isn't private and as for the background info, real estate agents use it, schools do and legislation like Megan's Law give people info to almost anyone's background.
