I have tangled with Papa and also listened very closely to his wisdom on myriad subjects. I know the last thing he wants to hear is a gooey-at-the-center revisionist stance from one of the board's tired old predictable lefties ... yet ...here I go ... I still so vividly remember his vulnerable commentary on PASSION OF THE CHIRST, after he was profoundly shaken by its grip on him. I remember backing off from my too-glib acerbic assaults on Mel Gibson to just take in what the film meant to Papa. I learned a lot --- mostly, how sometimes it's important to just say nothing when someone's deeply personal point of view has been so brilliantly articulated.
