OK our school musical for next year hasn't been announced yet but I have some clues and I want to figure it out.
Here are the clues:
NOT Annie, Sound of Music, or You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown
NOT Grease or West Side Story
popular in late 70s/early 80s
lots of "lead-ish" roles
not Sondheim
the cast probably features like 2 guys (a baritenor and a bass) and 2 girls (a mezzo and a a soprano)
AND our administration wouldn't let any "risque" musicals pass
(bump) Come ON everybody, I'm dying!

Not really giving it much thought but maybe Hair or A Chorus Line?

...because they're not risque at all.

hmmmm.....Has your schools chrous sung any songs from musicals lately? My 9th grade chorus sand Rythm(sp?) of Life and some kind of Fiddler on the Roof Medly. So now I'm pretty sure those are the two options for musicals. Sorry that didn't help at all. But I'm thinking.....
OH! Once Upon a Mattress maybe??? or Bye Bye Birdie...Fiddler on the Roof? hmmm... Or what about Annie Get your Gun?
lol. My high schools done both Hair and A Chorus Line.
Wow that post was very ADD.

You said "popular in the late 70's/early 80's". Bye Bye Birdie , Forum, and Hello Dolly were on Broadway in the early 1960's. Guys and Dolls was the early 1950's.
my guesses: (probably wrong! ahah)
On the Twentieth Century
The Pirates of Penzance
Nine
Evita

The Pirates of Penzance comes to mind. Sorry. I'm trying to figure out the same thing for my school only I have no clues at all
BYE BYE BIRDIE definitely, thats what our school just announced for next year and we were given many similar clues! let us know when you find out!
Bye Bye Birdie would be good. Or Once Upon a Mattress.
But for two lead men and two lead females, guys and dolls would be really good for that, even though I know it isn't the time period you're looking for.

I was thinking Guys & Dolls or Birdie, but my school did On The Twentieth Century this year, and it very well could be that... let us know when you find out! They just announced ours as Into The Woods...
