Posted: 4/10/06 at 7:36pmDon't throw anything at me, but if you do something from Wicked, and I mean, sing it perfectly, not half-assing it, you might do pretty well with that. But "Once Upon a Time" would probally be good. What about "Let Me Dance For You" from A Chorus Line, that would be good.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the college people probably have a basket of various fruits and vegetables and a big red sharpie marker (great for x-ing out names) next to them in case anyone sings Wicked.
In which case, if she sings Wicked, she'll be covered in tomato and squash with a big red X across her name.
I'd suggest singing the other options, but she knows that too hahahah
i love you lisa!!!

J&H is great for those sorts of things. Frank Wildhorn tailors his songs to the description you provide, especially if they're for Linda Eder.
So...
"Bring on the Men": music's easy enough to find. Lyrics, though no swearing, are very sexually orientated. Key change and rit, but no real build, to a top E with a pause and then down to a very long D("bring OOOOONN ... the ... MEEEENNNNN!").
Or, its replacement in the Broadway production, Good 'N' Evil, though a worse song; there are some nice moments and there's a build-up in triplets to another E with a pause going back down to a long C. A lot easier than Bring on the Men.
"Someone Like You": key change, barely any build-up, an Eb followed by a Db. Not fun. Also "A New Life", builds up to a D but then jumps back up at a hard interval.
"The Scarlet Pimpernel"'s "Only Love" is an awful song but could be belted nicely, as well as "When I Look at You" and "You Are My Home".

I don't know if this has been suggested yet...
"It's A Privelege To Pee" - Urinetown
I believe the belt is up to high G

Make sure it's not all about the belting part of the song. Find cuts of songs that also work as monologues and have softer points to show. Don't choose parts with nosensical words and random riffs. Show that you can act the song as well as just sing it. You have 30-45 seconds, use it well.
That being said, my suggestions are:
•Another Hundred People - Company
•Home - Beauty and the Beast
•Better - Little Women
•Notice Me, Horton - Seussical
Hope that helps!
Learn it. Live it. Love it.

Just sing what you feel the best with, and go out there with an attitude that clearly says, "You are gonna watch me, and you are gonna like me...no matter what." That always works good with me. Maybe Astonishing would work, Since Little Women has only been out for a year or so, maybe it won't be that over-done. And I seriously doubt that there is that many people who go out and try to be like Sutton.

I'm looking through my stuff on my shelf of music....First thought was "Life of the Party" from The Wild Party or "Summer in Ohio". LOTP belts to high E. Summer in Ohio is (goes to score for reference)is D#. You could look at "My Strongest Suit" or "I Know The Truth" from Aida...Strongest Suit high note is belt/mix if need be high F. "I Know The Truth" is a high D, so not insanely high...hope those help you a little in reference to notes!
Cheers,
Christopher

Posted: 4/17/06 at 1:08pmwhen i need a song thats belty for auditions i use "Gimme Gimme" from Thoroughly Modern Millie, its always been popular with the directors and i've never gone to an audition singing that song where someone else has chosen that one too!! break a leg and keep posting to let us know how it goes

i agree .
most of the songs mentioned are good, but obvious choices. i've sang " gimme gimme" at a few auditions . I'm surprised that everyone forgets that song, i think its great. and will DEFINATLY show off that belt. It may not be the highest notes but its a continuous belt middle to end.
good luck! :)

hi!! thanks for some more suggestions!
I actually just finished T.M.M at my school... we had to do gimmie gimmie for the audition and callback for millie.
i definitely see your point that it is a constant belt... but im more looking for the all around... some low notes, a mix, and then some good ol' high ones. There are about 4 suggestions on here I REEEALLY have my eye on, but I will give (almost) every single one a shot with my coach! :)
thank u thank u thank u!!!

How about "The Writing on the Wall" from Mystery of Edwin Drood?
Its a fun song and ends on a nice E natural.
"Is Someone Out There?" from Maury Yeston Songbook. Eden Espinosa belts the heck out of this one. Again upto E. And she certainly sounds like she is wailing
"Flagmaker, 1776" from Songs for a New World. Again up to E but incredibly difficult song to pull off.

i would highly, highly, highly, HIGHLY suggest singing "don't rain on my parade" from funny girl. barbara streisand sang it, so you know it's a good belting song. lots of belting and gorgeous notes, you definitly have to act the song as well, it's pretty impossible not to.
good luck!

Posted: 4/23/06 at 9:02pmon the ccm site it says not to sing songs that are famous for being sung by famous performers...as an example they have don't rain on my parade because everytime you hear it you think of barbara

Posted: 4/24/06 at 4:11pm"Look At Me Now" from The Wild Party (or even "Raise the Roof") are probably better choices than "The Life of the Party" - which has a very difficult piano accompaniment and might be over down. I think "Look At Me Now" had potential... and some belted E's or E flats... and can be cut to audition length pretty easily.

#71re: insane belt (wail) musical theatre song
Posted: 4/24/06 at 9:30pmI would highly suggest going with more little known belting songs. ALOT of people do Astonishing. And yes, singing a Barbara song results in being compared to Barbara, just like singing a Liza song results in being compared to Liza...big no no
