I suggest "Your daddy's son" from ragtime, with a very high belting piece in the middle of the song.

I don't know if the song is overdone, but here in belgium, no one knows the song, so they are always very interested in it.

ive been in love with that song for forever. That's exactly the kind of song I want to do... however one of my best friends "called" the song and might do it for auditions... so I dont want to steal it from her.

I wish!

with all these songs suggested that are written for a specific race, I personally and a lot of audition coaches would highly not recommend doing. but musicals that don't neccesarily have to be by a specific race, like once on this island, etc., can be done in my opinion.dreamgirls, ragtime, purlie, etc.,

but whatever floats your boat

Well lisa, like Mr.Connor said, choose a song that speaks to you. Not necessarily because the notes are big. Ashley is singing Daddys Son because it speaks to her emotionally. So i think you should listen to Connor and maybe not sing something just because the note is huge......

Here's a few I came up with:
Waiting for Life (ONCE ON THIS ISLAND)
Hit Me With a Hot Note (SOPHISTICATED LADIES)
Aquarius (HAIR)
Home (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST)
Who Will Love Me As I Am? (SIDE SHOW)
Easy To Be Hard (HAIR)
When You've Got It, Flaunt It (THE PRODUCERS)
A Little Less Conversation (ALL SHOOK UP)
Cabaret (CABARET)
Dead End (HAIR)

im really sorry if i have some bad suggestions, truly i am, but here are a few that came to my mind about high belty songs, but im really sorry, some of them are a little popular, and not totally moving, but this is what i have:

easy as life-Aida (not that high, but powerful when sung right)
lets hear is for the boy- footloose (when sang right, can be good)
i know the truth- Aida (with good riffs, similar to idinas)
Once upon a Time- BKLYN
All By Myself - Celine Dion (i dont even know if this is overused, but im just looking at my itunes with belty songs)
Bless The Lord- Godspell (probably overdone, and only when done right)
Home-Beauty and the Beast

Thats what ive seen that i dont think would be too overdone, but im sorry if im wrong, i hope ive helped a little, thanks

I really liked the suggestion of "The Road Ends Here" from john and jen. I got to do the show last summer and I believe the high note is E, possibly E flat; the key that it is in is at a loss for me right now. Hope the audition goes well. re: insane belt (wail) musical theatre song

Cheers,

"Just one step" from Songs for a New World. I think it only goes up to a C but you hold it literally as long as you can. Or something from Once On This Island, or "Here I Am" from DRS.

It's kind of a pop song, but in Footloose, "Let's Hear It For the Boy" goes up to a high F# during the last half, and then if you do the little riff at the end, it goes to an F# above staff.

"Umm...A1 is a steak sauce."

Check out Brian Lowerdmilk. Just google his name. Celia Keenan-Bolger sings this song "Say the Word" - It has a killer belt at the end and you can def. act the sh*t out of it. I think acting is probably more important than the acutally belting. You have to be able to sell the song.
