Glad you clarfied. I'm in a very defensive mood about being gay today. It seems everyone expects me to adapt and lower my standards of how I should be treated as a human being. Didn't mean to sound all crabby.

Tone is very difficult to convey on a message board. It happens to me all the time...
woah - i got much more than a yes or no answer. good stuff.
i love your adam quotes, "what is this, Footloose?". very funny,.
i asked on this board because everyone seems to have good/accurate info about broadway people; and usually everyone is nice and not cranky.
does anyone own bright lights? is it worth buying?

"Bright Lights" definitely isn't for everyone. The score is very inconsistent and I'm not sure how much I'm in love with the libretto. But I might be overly critical because I'm so in LOVE with Jay McInerney's book. (And if you haven't read it, you owe it to yourself to do so, whether or not you end up buying the Bright Lights CD.)
All that being said the cast is awesome and it's a really good recording. If you love Jesse it's definitely worth having.
One point about Anthony's statement. It's not as if someone asked him about Jesse - his statement was voluntary, and I doubt if he'd volunteer something just to cover for Jesse.

Ahh, good call Chloe.

Well chloe that's your opinion and of course you are entitled to it, but I'm not sure that it's true. I tend to believe that Mr. Rapp would not "out" another performer voluntarily or accidentally
See, I believe he would cover for Jesse. But what do either of us really know? Really?

I don't believe he would out anyone either, but I think he'd also be unlikely to lie about someone out of the blue. The statement about the gay characters in Rent being played by straight performers wasn't something he needed to say, so why bring it up unless it were true?

How out of the blue was it? How spontaneous are you claiming he was? How sincere? It's all speculation, yes?

That's food for thought. He probably wouldn't just say it, but we're not him... obviously. Mreh, doesn't really matter anyhow.

This is like the Sex and the City episode where Miranda's co-workers all think she's a lesbian because she's single. Single doesn't always equal gay.
Anyway, I have no idea if he is or not. I agree with Cloe in that Anthony probably wouldn't blatantly lie about it. If he were covering for him, he probably just wouldn't say anything.
Why why WHY does it matter? Since his "Status" is undetermined, isn't it much more fun for you, whatever your persuasion, to imagine he's gay?
Given that they were shooting L&O on the block where I work a few weeks ago and he was walking by, looked at me and smiled (and he looks MUCH better in person, frankly), I'd like to think the smile meant, you know. But, if you're a girl and he does that to you, he's straight, right?
Give it a rest.

Wow . Don't we all have a clear view into Mr. Rapp's thought process?
Jesse's straight....
*hugs bway*
He is beautiful in person, isn't he?

It's not just Mr. Rapp. I think almost anyone who was covering for someone would avoid the topic before lying about it.
I don't know..

Well we agree on that. You don't know. Neither do I.
Chita, Chita, Chita....
I didn't say it, did I? Come on, cut me a break. Leave it to you to act like a child.
Ihearttheatre, I don't know. I mean, plenty of people lie to cover themselves, so I don't know that it's totally foolproof, though, of course, I'd like to think you're right.
Yes, Emcee, he is.
So, despite you saying he's straight, I'm going to pretend his smile was not a nervous one in response to my bizarre, stalker-esque staring, but rather a, "gee, you're so hot I'd like to ask you for your number but I'm too intimidated by your beauty" kinda gay thing.

Ay. I adore Jesse L. Martin's acting, and I don't really give a hoot whether he's straight, gay, bi, a cat, what have you. But at the same time, I'm curious... out of no reason but curiosity.
awww, bway! I remember being afraid of him because he's SO. DAMNED. TALL. He has an incredible, warm smile, though.
They were shooting L&O at my school a couple of weeks ago, actually!

What if Mr. Rapp isn't covering for Jesse? What if Mr. Rapp doesn't know Jesse's sexual preference?
edit: are you still afraid of him luv?
Updated On: 3/2/06 at 09:18 PM
Well, I do damn sure care if he's a feline! Ick.
Is he that tall? You are a little shorter than I am, maybe I missed that.
They shoot Law and Order all over the place. They shot on the street of my very first apartment when I moved to the city, it's inevitable they'll hit your area.
That said, Jesse=for us all.
Sure, there's a POSSIBILITY Anthony was covering for him. But even if he was, for any one of a billion reasons, I'm pretty sure he knows the truth, whether he shared it or not.
ETA -- they shoot here fairly often, apparently. A bunch of people went to watch and now all have photos with JLM, but I was in class while it was all going on. And yeah, he's TALL. But... I'm not.

Can we turn this into a Jesse love thread? Please? He's so beautiful. So, so beautiful.
