let's pick the running mates for Huckabee & Obama

Honestly, I’m willing to co-sign on either Huckabee or Obama as prez but can’t imagine who would make suitable running mates from the current players.
Obama’s dilemma is that picking Biden who chairs the all-important Foreign Relations Committee would short the Dem’s one Senate slot; Clinton wants all or nothing; and an Obama/Richardson ticket is a sure recipe for defeat in the general election. Plus DE doesn't boast many electoral votes. I say that Obama needs a governor as running mate from either the rust belt or the old south. Obama is savvy now in the ways of Washington but needs to shake loose a few red states awash in electoral votes like NC, SC, and TN.
Smart money is on Huckabee tapping his buddy McCain as his VP but there is a rather large swath of elite GOPers that don’t particularly care for either, e.g. disciples of Romney, Tancredo, Limbaugh and Rupert Murdoch. I say that Huckabee needs a Washington insider to help him ramp up the sharp learning curb that he'll encounter inside the beltway.
Who would you guys (and gals) pick as running mates for Huckabee and Obama (provided they sealed their respective party’s nomination) if you had your druthers? Let’s try to keep it clean, please.

Trust me PalJoey, as a non-faith person it took a helluva lot of contemplation to reach this point but at least I know that the guy yields to a power higher than the almighty dollar via K St here in Washington. His humility is touching and, like Obama, he strikes me as an honest broker. I deplore the notion that elected office can be sold to the highest bidder.
Furthermore, someone must have the cojones to take on the military-industrial complex that Eisenhower warned the nation about. I love this great nation and believe that it is so much above empire-building and perpetuating proxy wars abroad to the benefit of an investor class. The GOP elite loath the guy because he's a country do-gooder that will have several fat pigs on a spit at the first opportunity if it will save the Republic. It's more than a bit ironic that elite GOP partisans that have consistently accused the opposing party of class warfare have been called out by one of their own.
In my mind Iowans got it right last night. We are witnessing a populist movement on both sides. Politics is about compromise.

Obama - Bill Richardson
Huckabee - Larry Craig; hey, why not? Nothing is going to save the GOP from going down, so we might as well have some fun.

huckabee/mccain - mccain will take it becaue he honestly likes huck and huck needs the non-evangelical appeal and experience that mccain brings. if they manage it, it's a winning ticket.
obama/richardson - it's a done deal. that's why the richardson delegates all went to obama. i don't know that it helps him that much to have an all minority ticket, but bill brings the lacking experience factor as well and he's crazy popular on the left.
javero, i'm curious that you can look past some of the truly repugnant positions huck's taken on same sex issues. they even drove me away and i was an early huck-a-maniac.

But WOSQ, wouldn't Larry Craig be a candidate for President Huckabee's new Homo Quarantine Camps?
I know the Republican establishment gives him a pass, but as we're repeatedly told, Huckabee is the anti-establishment candidate.

If you ever become President of the US, at least as far as I can figure, sooner or later you will want to put your VP into confinement.
Dan Quayle, anyone? Spiro Agnew?
Besides, Mister Craig just might really really LIKE being locked up....

Better the devil you know than one you don't!
I grew up in the Old South surrounded by fanatical evangelical Christians with literal interpretation of Biblical scripture. Yeah, I think they're loony of heck but they believe in their hearts (at least per my non-scientific polling) that the military campaign in Iraq is counter to their God's will.
I'm no tree-hugging peacenik either in the face of global terror. It's just that I believe that either Obama or Huckabee would defer to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in military matters before some friggin' editor of the National Review, neocon at the Heritage Foundation, or their counterparts on the other side of the aisle.
Uppermost, I believe that either would curb the unlimited power of domestic corporations wrecking havoc on foreign soil via environmental abuses, near-slave labor and skirting the tax code. Gotta give Obama mad props last night for mentioning climate control during his victory lap last night even if there's no national consensus on threat yet.
There are some national issues so pressing and urgent that they transcend a few of the thorny social issues that our exchanges usually descend into discussions about. Forgive me gang but I'm placing transcendent issues at the top of the queue right now.

Oh, I think Huckabee should run with someone outside of politics to soften his image...how about:

You are deluded to put that faith behind a man as deeply bigoted as Mike Huckabee. DANGEROUSLY deluded.

What choice do I have PalJoey???
Clinton isn't electable and Obama won't be either if he doesn't pander to the red states.
Huckabee would force the elites within the GOP to suffer as much as the rest of us. That's precisely why they HATE him, hate being a strong word which I usually avoid.
The worshippers of Reagan like Laura Ingraham have already picked up on the phrase coined by Huck "Washington-New York Axis Of Power" and run with it. Bush has been a total embarrassment to them who has tainted their party as much as Clinton is a drag on ours.
The GOP is acutely aware that it's only shot at retaining the White House is to rally around Huck & McCain. Huck's now the surprise front runner so fingers are in the wind. PalJoey, those Republicans know how to win national elections so you'd be wise to not rule out Huck's presidency, with all due respect. They, including the Bible-thumping fanactical fringe, are citizens too.

I doubt a lot of those "red states" are as red as they used be.

Agreed, but Obama has picked up a head of steam now in the race to his party's nomination. Events prior to last night are fodder for news junkies. Everybody loves a winner so Huck & Obama are today's mass media darlings. One of the so-called immutable laws of marketing is #1: Law of Leadership...they are the 1st to lay claim to the crown.
